My son is wrapping up his 1st year at USC and that's a big part of why we picked Lake Murray in the first place. We talked about Gaston, Smith Mountain Lake, Norman, Keowee, and Hartwell. We eliminated Gaston and Smith Mtn because we wanted to go south. Keowee and Hartwell are an extra hour plus away.... We thought long and hard about Norman, especially since my wife goes there for work at least a couple times a month. That’s awesome! My oldest daughter, wife and I went and checked out lake Murray for the first time a couple weeks while visiting U of S.C. for an admitted students day. We were really impressed with the area. My daughter will be attending school down there starting this fall and we are definitely planning on getting some boating in when we are down there. I honestly think I’d like to move there. Homes on the lake are very reasonable and the pace of life is so much better then up here in the Baltimore/DC area.
Congrats on the house. I really hope you love it!![]()
Dominion SC controls the lake and they do not allow boat houses, roofs, or covers of any kind. I've asked multiple people and "that's how it's always been" is the usual answer. Sucks, I would love to have it covered. Can you build a roof/cover for the lift?
Good question. I wasn't there when it happened, so other than a couple pictures I didn't get to see. I know if there's rock they have to drill and that's more $$$. Luckily they didn't drill mine. How do they get those posts in - twist or pound or? Also, is it square or just "square enough?"
Not sure who is worse Dominion or Duke. LOLOLOL! Dominion controls Gaston and people bitch about them all the time. What gets me is that Dominion runs Gaston and there are boat houses and roofs on docks. Maybe there's a NC/SC difference...??? I dunno. One person told me that lines of sight is a reason. No roofs or covers means everyone has a better view of the lake. I'd take a cover anyway over being able to see a bit less. Not sure who is worse Dominion or Duke. LOLOLOL! That's a possibility. They have all kinds of rules on Gaston about their boat houses too, but yeah at least they allow roof's.What gets me is that Dominion runs Gaston and there are boat houses and roofs on docks.
