I have a 2008 Yamaha sx210 and I’m trying to figure out if a ngk platinum premium plug will work in my MR-1. I was attempting to purchase the ngk iridium IX part number 3521 plug everyone was talking about but all the stores in my area are out of stock. I ended up with a set of 8 bkr5ekpb-11 plugs. Will these plugs work in my motor? The guy said they are the same plug but I’m not sure.

Why not go with the stock CR9EB?

I was just reading some of the other posts and a lot of people are putting in the iridium plugs so I was thinking a better plug would make my boat run a little smoother and more efficient.

Even jet ski racers use regular plugs in these motors, nothing else has been shown to work better. They need to be changed frequently though, especially MR-1s are super sensitive and like those plugs fresh!

The OEM plugs come pregapped, too, and are not meant to be adjusted.

@swatski makes a good point. I used to change my plugs every season. After 5 seasons of doing that and following this forum's advice on using anti seize I found my plugs were in great shape so I migrated to an every other season change with great results. When I remove the old set I package them up and put them in the boat's glove box as working spares. That way if I have a minor engine issue I can swap in the "known good spares" (on the water if I want to) to see if that is the cause.
