Guest, we are pleased to announce that Hydrophase Ridesteady is offering an extra $100 off for JETBOATERS.NET members on any Ridesteady for Yamaha Speed Control system purchased through March 7th, 2025. Ridesteady is a speed control system (“cruise control”) that uses GPS satellites or engine RPM to keep your boat at the set speed you choose. On twin engine boats, it will also automatically synchronize your engines.
Great find on the parts diagram so what would you do to bypass the relay take a screwdriver and bridge the two points at part #21 . Would this have to be in conjunction with pushing the start button
With all this chatter about 12v and electrocution the other day I was checking a 9v battery and did the old tongue test and my test probe let me know the battery was weak. Thinking about 12v on the tongue is scary from a car battery with massive current flow but sure enough google it and some crack pot did it . His reaction is funny skip to the :27 second mark
By the way, welcome to this awesome community.
As you probably already can tell, there is a great
Bunch of people here! Everyone is always ready to help with any concerns, questions you might have and it's also a great place to make new friends that have jet boats!
And yet not a single person has answered the question on where the solenoid is. Currently laying across the motor trying to find it. Can anyone just answer the question for a solenoid location for a 2012 242?

It is on the wall. You have to pull the cover off, two person job. Have to pull off your clean out port cover. Have someone play back up for you while you take the 17mm nuts off from the inside. Then pull off the six 10mm nuts off from behind the cover. Now the next person that see this post won’t just see “trace your wire and figure it out yourself”. They will actually get help from this forum.
Not trying to be rude guys, just a little short tempered right now. I just wanted a direct answer and a lot of times these forums feel more like a college final then a help tank. And I also figured out both starters are good as good but my port engine is seized from my almost sinking and sucking up water. So I’ll probably have a three on pulling a 1.8, tear down, and rebuild. Not happy. Don’t forget to put your jet plugs back in guys!
Perhaps if you went above and read what you posted (and the post immediately before that from 2018), you would find you are upset because you never asked the question you thought you did before you started to get huffy.
Perhaps with an attitude like his and being new here he would learn that first I told him where to find it but I gave him my we help those who help themselves and yes a 3 year old post popping out of the wood work and now with that reply I added him to my ignore list.

Remember you catch more flies with Honey. The board's culture is generally uber helpful, only a few select forums reach this level of support you will see here.
For those coming upon this in the future and seeking a clear answer as to where the solenoids are. They are attached to the side of each fuse box on a 2016 242 ls. A stiff rubber sleeve holds them onto a bracket. If that does not help try following the positive cable from battery switch back into the engine compartment. It terminates at the solenoid (on a factory 2016 242ls anyway). One could also follow the starter positive back to where it terminates.
I know someone who lives close to me that lost an engine to a plug blow out. I backed his trailer in to help him get it out. Damage was already done by continuing to crank then trying to crank the engine that ingested water. If you have a load of water in your engine compartment; figure out why and address it. THEN figure out if high enough to have sucked some in BEFORE cranking the engines.

Cant find a reasonable used assembly? Because it usually has more items bolted to it that you might need. A replacement sbt motor will be just the block and head most likely

I have looked on line for a short block and long block. SBT is the only and first ones to get back to me on this. Yamaha dealer will rebuild but they will sell you each piece by piece. I just started a new thread on this topic called 1.8ho engine replacement 2012 242Ls. I was told 7-10weeks so if you know of anyone who wants my cash please let me know.
