Stereo system upgrade recommendations

So I ended up going with the following...

- 6 Polk MM651UM (4 cabin and 2 transom)
- Wet Sounds HT-4 amp
- Fusion MS IP600g with Remote and Bluetooth attachment

I figure I have a couple ways to wire this so not sure what would be the best..

Amp is rated at
- 110 rms x 4 @ 4ohms
- 150 rms x 4 @ 2ohms

Speakers rated at
- 100 rms
- 200 max

Option 1
Wire the 4 cabins in parallel across 2 channels and the 2 transoms each to their own channels. That would give me 150w to each of the 2 cabin channels or 75w per speaker and 110 watts per speaker on the transom. Will that cause imbalance with the cabins at 2ohms and the transoms at 4?

Option 2
Wire the 4 cabins to their own channels and wire the 2 transom to the dedicated head unit outs. That would give me 110w per the 4 cabins and 70w to the 2 transoms (per Fusion specs)

Which would sound better? Speakers are rated at 100 rms. So I would expect the transoms to sound better with the 1st option and the cabins to sound better with the 2nd option.

How much of a difference would I see between 75w and 110w?

I want good sound in the cabin when we are cruising but I would also like to hear the transoms while surfing. Not sure if 75 or even 110 would give me that.

What do you think? Anyone have a similar setup and which way did you go?

Thanks
Mike
Hey... if u have the stock radio u will need an adaptor plate to mount the radio... Bruce did all the leg work and jet boat pilot can make u one. It is NOT the one on the Web site... it's too small... if u call j
Will @JetBoatPilot he can make u one thanks to Bruce giving him the dimensions. He is making one for me next week. It was like $50 or so... I'm kinda dead in the water working on mine untill they get it to me but its all good.

Thanks @bronze_10 I did see that in another post. Not sure what I am going to do yet. Thinking about moving it up to where the no wake switches are. Need to get the boat to take some measurements.

There was someone on this forum or the other one that re-fabricated the dash where the tachs are. And maybe the whole dash but I don't recall. I cannot recall the material he used but I seem to think it was graphite. I will need to search for that.

So what's the issue? Why will it not mount to the existing? I assume it just doesn't seat against the plate well or is it the size?

Thanks
Mike

@bronze_10 thanks! I haven't started on my install journey yet. Good to know that the 750 our boats need Bruce adapter plate. I assumed the one on his site was the correct one.@JetBoatPilot I'd like to order one too.

Thanks
Mark

Looking to do about the same setup on mine. I will by the speakers and HU soon but hold out on any for now. New boat spending lots of money. Can't wait to hear your opinion on the set up.

That Fusion is rated at 26 rms continuous and 70 rms peak.
You mention wanting to hear it while surfing, so if it was me, I'd wire it per your Option #1.

In my 2008 and I belive the 2007 and 2009 models the radio has a cover that it sits in so u can flip a little cover down to protect it.... once u remove that cover the hole is something like 10 inches diagonal. So u need the adaptor plate but they have to make it custom per order.

You'll love the Fusion radio. I can't stop playing with my radio and I am still using the stock speakers. I'll upgrade eventually to better speakers in the future. Congrats on your early gifts!

Like this? Previous owner put in a cheaper HU. I will be pulling all out once I get to the boat in next few weeks

I store my boat in open off site storage so I had a hard time deciding on towers, but in the end I decided against it due to costs and possible theft. I found, what I think was a great deal on that amp ($220) so decided to get it. I thought it would be enough for the cabins and speakers especially with the better HU. I have some options and will probably change it around to hear it both ways. I will let you know.

Thanks @octavio3311 I must have missed that but I guess all along I was thinking I would wire it with option 1. That is probably where I will start.

The difference between 75w and 110w is minimal, to me it's more about the quality of the power vs the stated power numbers. Going from75w to 150w is a 3db increase which many state isn't noticeable to our ears and you are less then that 3db increase.

Rms numbers are pretty meaningless, you can blow a 100w speakers with 20w of power just like you can with 1,000w of power. Where we get in trouble is when we want it to play louder then it can and in noisy situations.

No issues running a mix of 2 and 4 ohm loads on a amp

Not familiar with fusion, is it a receiver? Sorry I didn't look it up, call me lazy :)

I would run a crossover of some type (active or passive) on the rear speakers, cut the bass out maybe under 80-100hz or so, biggest risk is not hearing the speakers being overdriven at low frequencies and that should protect them. This will also allow them to play louder

Option #3 is to buy a 2nd amp so they all get better power :) it's only money right?

Got surprise in the mail from Will today! The mounting plate is very solid. Thanks Will!

That plate looks awesome @JetBoatPilot Nice work indeed! I might end up ordering one but I am looking at doing something a little different. A fellow customized his dash on the old site and I am looking to do something similar. If I cannot find the time this season then I might be ordering this.

See midway down the post for the final product...http://yamahajetboaters.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=44187

The big thing for me is that I really would like to move the head unit up to where the no wake switches are. So that would be a totally different plate I would assume.

I will let you know though.

Mike

I checked that out and I have been thinking about doing the same thing @96Pirate. Rearranging the dash to accommodate an iPad or my new Garmin chart plotter. He did a nice job on that panel.
