Stoltz roller messed up my transducer so where is the best/easiest place to relocate it?

Picked up my boat from storage today and noticed that the Stoltz roller that I installed last fall right before I put the boat away "pulls/ratchets" up higher so my transducer no longer hangs over the bunk and is now flipped up.

I was planning on installing trim tabs along the BLUE line so can either move the transducer up a little to the yellow area (easiest), over to the green or maybe the best would be to the pink area?

Please note I also purchased JBP's Thrust Vectors so I'm not sure how far they will cut over when fully turned??? Anyone with the installed can give me some pointers?

Have you checked the tongue weight. Looks like the boat is too far in. You could just slide the boat back as well as the winch post. I would check and adjust for proper tongue weight first to see if you have a problem with the bunk and your transducer or not.

Hmm I didn't think about that. Usually I just crank it until there is some tension so maybe I somehow got it up further since the Stoltz is so much smoother haha.

Come to think of it the boat usually stays pretty flush with the end of the bunk and now it's forward a few inches so that you can see 2-3 inches of exposed bunk!

I agree I don't think it should be that forward. If you do mount a transducer try this..instead of gong into the hull. Choose from different colors and sizes.

That’s exactly what I did to mine. While the boat was sitting on the trailer I measured the trailer bunk to the boat. It was 2” past the boat. So I moved the winch post 3” back. Plenty of clearance now.

The shop ended up cutting the right bunk back 2” so if I ever pull the boat up too high it won’t smash the transducer!

@vesder21 I guess that is a solution, but did you check the tongue weight and the position of the boat on the trailer? I have a feeling that your winch post is too far forward. Sounds like they took the easy lazy way out for a less than optimal solutions.

I’m not sure and don’t have a good way to test/determine my tongue weight. I know there is a traveling scale somewhere on this forum but have just left it at the factory placement. Hopefully it’s not too much off unless you have others ideas.

You can go to a uhaul call first, or you can use a bathroom scale and board. There is a thread around here which discusses that method, cant seem to find it

So should the hull be flush with the bunks, or hang over? Each time out I can't get the boat to center on the bunks. Even when I try to even it out, it always end up off center.

What did that cost?

Do not cut the bunk, that's the wrong answer. That's not the standard trailer, so it's just not been setup correctly for the boat. Simply move the winch post back enough inches to get the bunk flush with the transom.

Others are right though, put a bathroom scale under your tongue and you will probably find out you have way too much tongue weight if that much bunk is showing.

There is a whole thread about the “lean.” I’d say my boat sits on my left fender 80% of the time no matter what I do.

I have never crank the boat up that high until storing it last fall. Most the time it sits flush so this is an isolated case. When I pick up my boat from the shop I’ll let you know how much they charged me.

Also I totally agree with you that this is not the correct fix, but also don’t see any harm since it’s literally 2 inches with most of the bank still there to distribute the weight. This is just in case I ever handcrank it too high so that I don’t have to deal with it smashing my transducer.

I will give Uhaul a call so thanks for the feedback!

I know this is prob NOT the correct way to measure, but can probably get me close. If you have a

  • Shoreland'r Aluminum Trailer
please measure the distance from the hashes in red so that I can double check mine?

In general if your trailer is balanced and I adjust to a similar measurement I should be "within range," correct?

FYI, What you want to do will only work if the person providing the measurement has the same trailer as you.

This is the video to consult:

When your boat is on the bunks the transom should hang about 2-3 inches over the bunk. This allows for any transducer to have clearance whilst loading. Sometimes the ratchet tree is loose and slides when you hit the roller. I adjusted mine when the boat was in the water. I also have the FSH 210.
