I plan on putting a 10” kicker sub beside the captains chair. Do I need to reinforce the wall there? If so any times on how to press the board to it to screw the sub in without pushing the board away from the wall

You should reinforce it with a high quality plywood ring sandwiched by the mounting screws. Here is how I installed an 8” JL.

I installed my sub next to the captain’s chair/under the throttles. My installation included a wooden ring which was glued in place (used clamps to hold it in place overnight while the glue dried) and pre drilled using the speaker/speaker’s grill as a template.

mine is side-facing in the storage behind the chair, so i may of had a bit more access. but after cutting hole in wall, i cut matching hole in backer board. then clamped/glued backer to wall, marked /pre-drilled 4 holes and used 4 phillips head ss bolts/washers/nylocks to attach speaker into position. then i was able to drill pilot holes for the remaining 4 screws.

I added a 10" free air sub with my bother in-laws help (retired aircraft mechanic) in 21. He insisted on titanium bolts, washers et cetera which we got at Fastenal for that reason. They weren't cheap, but two seasons later, have had no issues.

I plan on reinforcing it and filling the surrounding area with insulation. Looking forward to this project tomorrow after work.

Is that your only sub? If so how does the 8” do?

I’m looking at doing same thing. I don’t generally blast my music super loud but the bass from the 6.5”s is not cutting it.

I added a 10" IB sub next to the captains chair and reinforced with a starboard type material. I'd be a little concerned about using plywood in a wet environment.

I know there are tons of opinions against the 8”; but for me, it is amazing. It is my only sub. It’s right under my seat (I like the bass more than the family) and like you, I am not looking to blast music; but want to be able to hear music clearly. Highly recommend JL Audio 8” free-air. I added a Clarion 5 Chanel amp to my Alpine head unit when I put it in so it does have an external amp driving with crossovers set at the head unit.

@Rooster , seeing all that fiberglass dust is making my arms itch all over again. Bad times, Bad times but still glad for the (overall) experience and resulting bass.

So funny story. The wife said absolutely no sub so don’t ask. So I didn’t ask. Sneaking money for this project without her knowing. Grill is coming.

Never considered putting speakers there. I have two more stock WS Recon's that need a home. Unfortunately, no room on the transom of our 195s but this might work. That would give me 8 6.5's, 2 tower speakers and a 10-inch sub.
Did the speaker on the side need any additional support?

@kgower, I just added a set of 6" wet sounds low mid cabin, where his sub is now, on either side to my 2022 195s. Makes a huge difference in being able to hear music when cruising.

Other than fiberglass and gelcoat, plywood is probably next on the list of materials in most boats.

I have a pair there already. Yes it does make a big difference.
