Guys I got a question and I apologize in advance if this is answered but I tried to find the answer to this in other threads but could not. I have a 2018 AR210.

So I have 1 wet sounds 6 channel amp which is powering 4 wet sounds 6.5" deck speakers only. 1 on each channel. This year I ordered a 12" (open air) subwoofer from Wetsounds and this thing is a 30lbs. beast! Link to what I ordered :-

REVO 12 XXX V4-B | Wet Sounds 12 Inch SPL Marine Subwoofer

Couple Questions :-

1. Do I connect it to the same 6 channel amp by bridging the 2 open channels or will it need just 1 open channel. Or does this beast need it's own seperate amp?

2. Since this subwoofer is so damn heavy, do I need bracing or some sort of wooden structure behind the fiberglass to install it or how does that work?

I am a mechanical engineer and a total rook when it comes to sound systems. Did the first install myself but now I ordered a giant subwoofer without really researching much. I guess I was impulse shopping as a typical boat junkie. Any help really appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, you bridge the 2 channels together for the sub. Im not sure if the amp you have will be big enough to run that sub, it requires a lot of power. For the weight i would use 3/4in starboard at least to mount it.

It looks like that sub needs to be in a box, not IB if that was what you were wanting

You need a different amp. That pushes around 1200 watts rms. Also will need to be 1 ohm stable

I would also put that beast in a ported box

Most amps and speakers are 4ohm, now there are a lot of amps that can run on 2ohm so you can put 2 4ohm speakers in parallel for a 2ohm load. Your sub has 2 2ohm drivers making it 1ohm and not a lot of amps that can go down to 1ohm and be stable(reliable)

Could also wire the DVC in series to get it to a 4 ohm load if the amp can't do 1 ohm.

That sub is NOT an IB sub and requires an enclosure..... Preferably ported. Like @wTheOnew said, you can wire the DVC in a series to net 4 ohm if your amp can't handle the 1 ohm load (mono). You need LOTS of power for that woofer. If you are not looking to build an enclosure and buy a bigger amp, you may want to consider getting an IB subwoofer.

You will definitely want a different amp for that sub, I don't know what speakers you run but with a peak draw of 2400W from that sub I would think you are going to be taxing that amp without any other speakers connected

Can anyone please suggest the type of another amp I need here? I get confused on channels and mono etc. So I need an amp which is at least 1200W right? Wetsounds amps are super expensive and only one I found on their website was $1400. Anyone know of a cheaper amp I can buy? Any link? Do I need a 1 channel amp for this sub?

To use the sub at its full potential you are going to probably want a single channel (mono) amp that is one ohm stable and that it going to be expensive, otherwise you will end up having to wire the voice coils in series.

You can look toward HIfonics amps if you are on a budget, but I can't speak to their quality. I have the same sub running off of a Wetsounds SD2. It pounds! But regardless, you'll need to build an enclosure for it.

Expect MAYBE half of what its claiming power wise. Go for Kicker, Rockford, JL if you want to get actual power the amp is rated for out of it.
