Temporary Registration New Boat

Looking for some advice, perhaps it didn't dawn on me till today. Today or tomorrow I will be taking deliver on a 2020 AR210. I live in Michigan. Of course I am anxious to get out on the water on the first nice day which may be this weekend. Since the registration, etc. Has been sent into the state, I am not sure what the dealer will give me. I am fully insured. I believe I will have to wait for MC Numbers? and everything to work its way through the system which I have been told is moving slow.

Am I legal to take the boat out onto the water? What should I carry with me if I go just in case.

Any wisdom would be much appreciated.

I would ask your dealer if they have a temp tag concept since they filed for the MC numbers on your behalf?

I don’t think you’re taking a big risk floating the boat without MC numbers if you have a copy of the bill of sale with you on the boat and ID

I can’t see watercraft hassling you about not having your registration fully complete given COVID19 considerations.

Every state may vary but generally you have 30-45 days that you are ok to not have registration numbers posted. Your bill of sale is proof of ownership and dated.

I didn’t get my numbers from IL for about 6-8 weeks after purchase, I had the bill of sale and copy of the registration paper with but never even got stopped.

In Texas they gave us a temp tag to use. Never got stopped or questioned or anything, even when I forgot and had it in the glovebox.

Your dealer should give you a temp registration tag for the boat and one for the trailer for at least 30 days. Carry the boat one on the boat along with the bill of sale. Carry the trailer one in the car along with the bill of sale. You should have no issues, this is typical.

Chatted with a DNR equivalent and didn't even have all the stickers (lettering) for my registration on my hull. He didn't even blink. I think everyone has more important things going on right now. Had he said anything I had a temp registration given to me by the dealer. Equivalent of 30 day tag you get when buying a car in NC.
