Those who have made warranty claims?

Yep that is very true. I'm pretty sure that is what happened because the cashier chick tried to charge me and the shop mgr was right there and said no it's a warranty claim he's good
Which honestly in these cases it's very clear a warranty issue is how it should be done. A 6 month old boat with 40 hours shouldn't have these kinds of defects. Clearly warranty issues, let's get them fixed, get the boat back to the customer quick, and we'll settle up with Yamaha after. Just document everything good and call it a day.

Soooooooo close. Got a call today my boat was done. Ran down the list of things that needed fixing, but didn't hear the engine hatch. I inquired and he said yup, that was done too. I was on my way close to the dealer anyways heading towards Jacksonville, so said I'd pick it up on my way back. Get to the dealer and same story again. They pull my boat out and I'm not exactly confident everything is fixed. Pulled the cover off and everything looked good from the topside, but figured I better hop in and check. Nope engine hatch wasn't fixed. So, I left it there. :( Hopefully with this being the only thing on the list it'll get fixed. They were super nice and apologized several times. Fortunately it's the middle of winter.

Well, there is fixed and there is fixed. You should have asked to have it fixed, not just fixed.

haha, yeah! I'm more concerned with just how filthy it was. I had just completed a 2 stage polish and ceramic coating inside and out not too long before I dropped it off, so it was spotless. As you can see in the pics it's disgusting and soaking wet inside and out. I'm just not built like other people. I take care of my stuff too well. Hate my poor boat has sat outside for over a month now. Hopefully it won't be another month. It was nice seeing it, albeit briefly, today.

I get it. But I also know my dealer stores it outside. One of the many reasons I don't hardly ever have them do things on my boat. Not that my boat is anywhere near as pristine as yours (in fact, she needs a bath and a wax). But I prefer that *I* mess her up and, if I mess her up and don't clean it up, that is my decision. I don't like it when others make the decision as to how dirty my boat should be. That's not cool.

So, we are really not that far apart on the point. At least you got to see her.

I do all my maintenance myself on my boat. I COULD have done the gelcoat work, but it was one of those things it's under warranty I shouldn't have to fix that stuff myself.

sooooo just got off a pretty lengthy call with Yamaha. Last week or so I got an email stating take this survey as your boat was just worked on. Of which I replied and said why am I getting this survey my boat isn't done I'm waiting for yamaha to tell the dealer to fix it. So, someone from Yamaha got that email and actually called me. I figured that went into a no reply kind of inbox that will never be seen by human eyes. The dude I talked to was super nice and said he has already chatted with my dealer before calling me and they have all the approvals necessary to complete my boat with no delay.

In any event I said well why did it sit there for a month waiting for you guys?

get this.......they didn't even submit the claim to Yamaha until the first part of January, in which he said they turned around the approval pretty quick. He could tell I started to get pretty hot over that and said welllllll sometimes I know it can take a dealership a while to process things before they reach out to us blah blah blah. At this point......I dunno who screwed the pooch. Yamaha guy said wellll probably the holidays messed them up.

Oh well, it is what it is and sounds like my boat should be done soon. I have to say I'm impressed with Yamaha even contacting me/the dealership to hear out my grievances or sort out the issue. He did say gelcoat issues can be pretty touchy. Which I took as "Yamaha will do their best to deny those claims". What was even more surprising is the guy said well now you have my name and number, if you ever have any issues with your boat feel free to give me a call. I'd expect a company the size of Yamaha to not GAF about the thousands of people that buy their products, much less call because I replied to an automated email stating my disappointment.

yep, like i said, the dealer can make or break it. my dealer has always gotten a reply back from yamaha with 48 hours or so. most of the time its the dealer that leaves the boat sit until they have a chance to look into the situation. yamaha as a company has been fine for me. well in any case its good you are finally seeing some action on your repair.

Welp she's home. I'd say the work is passable, and likely the quality you're going to get out of warranty and/or insurance type work. If I was paying for it I'd be pissed. With that being said I can spot paint defects from a million miles away. 99.9% of people would think it looks great, so definitely take my critique with a grain of salt. It's better than what it was, so that's good. Granted the engine bay is full of sanding dust, looks like dirty shoe prints on one of the seats, and generally just filthy. There's sand in the clean out hatch, which is odd as my boat was spotless when it was dropped off. Also never been in salt and/or sand. They didn't have the keys so it's not like they went joyriding in it. Anywho, likely due to it sitting out for over a month. Also I know it sounds like I feel this dealership is terrible, but not at all. It's the level of work you'd expect from your normal boat dealer. If I wanted perfection I would have sought out a gelcoat person that has absurd standards like I do and paid a buttload of money to have it fixed. Now begins the work to recondition her back to where she was.
