Thrust Vector advice

Got fins and reverse thrusters after learning the hard way I needed them. I think it probably depends on how you use your boat and the docking conditions you have. I installed the package last year and couldn’t be happier. It’s also nice to have a little steering in neutral.

I'm in the Cobra camp and run my fins down on plane. I really don't see any down side except some trivial drag produced by the fins moving through the water. I'll take the better maneuverability the fins offer all operating speeds...seems like a no-brainer to me.

I've always used fins on my boats....as they help myself and others pilot. The largest difference for me when transitioning from the 2009 to the 2017 was the Thrust Directional Control in the 2017. When moving the throttles from N to F, they are actually in TDC mode (where the buckets are still slightly down in the spray). Simply moving the throttles about 1/2 throttle thickness forward changes the thrust noticeably...and the sound even changes. Once I figured that out, I had another weapon to use in close-quarters.

:)

Get a steering enhancement. I used my FSH 190 for a full year before I broke down I bought one. My dealer also said "you don't need those" even though they sell the TV's. I chose the cobra's over thrust vectors for several reasons but either one you go with will make your boating life so much better. Seriously, I really do not know why Yamaha doesn't design one of these type of systems straight from the factory. Once again this is coming from a man that said "i don't need those things" 50 hours later I install the cobras and said"where have you been all my life".
