I had my first major blow out this past weekend and needed a little advice. My fender ripped off and the tire exploded causing chaos. I don't know if I hit something but thankfully we were all safe.

My question is about the mounts to the trailer. They are bent now. I have attached a few photos. I was able to recover the fender and have the hardware. It ripped the plastic washers attached to fender so there is that. I think I can repair those ( not sure of how to yet). Any advice on that is also appreciatedz

As for the mounts to the trailer, seeing what you guys thought about tapping them back into place with wood and mallet or if you think I need to get them rewelded. Any advice appreciated. Also glad to finally be posting again on here after so long.

Holy crap! Glad everyone is safe. I’ve blown a tire on a double axle trailer, but never a single axle one.

Glad no one was injured. I thought there was a recall for some Shorelandr trailers involving fenders... not sure if that is relevent in this case.

glad you guys are all good, that’s the main thing. those blowouts can get sketchy fast.

honestly on the mounts, if they’re visibly bent I wouldn’t just hammer them back with wood and call it good. you might get them close but the metal’s already taken a hit, so they’ll probably want to move again or sit slightly off. if it were me I’d pull them and either straighten them properly in a vice or just have a fab shop re-weld/reinforce them so you’re not chasing issues later. for the fender hardware, those plastic washers are pretty easy fix. you can replace them with nylon fender washers from any hardware or marine place, nothing special needed there. also worth giving the tire area and the other side a good once-over before you bolt it all back up, just to make sure nothing else got tweaked in the chaos.

you’re on the right track recovering everything, just take a bit of time on the mounts so it doesn’t turn into a repeat problem.

No big deal. Clamp a 2x4 to the twisted mount and bend it back into position. Buy a new fender.

Run radial tires only. Keep track of the age of your tires and set pressure to least the max recommended pressure. Don't exceed the max speed rating or max load rating of the tires. In hot weather, drive 5-10 MPH below the speed limit. (Since you're in California, I guess you're limited to 55 MPH).

I've blown more trailer tires than I can count. Usually you know it, but this was in a bad rain storm and I couldn't hear it over the rain, the windshield wipers, and the radio.
