TR-1 and 1.8’s

7900-8100rpm make sure the boat is not marked California “Carb” compliant

Interesting, I've only seen a max of about 7400 out of mine. I'll have to do some testing - not that 400rpm matters that much.

I think mine tops out around 7800ish.

Now the project is to figure out how to fit the 21 which is 24 on the trailer, but w the trailer tongue that folds is 22, into a two car garage that is 20 ft long and still let my wife park her explorer :woot:
Yeah that's not going to happen.

@anmut same boat and I am also only seeing 7400rpm. Curious if this is standard on the 212S 1.8's???

@212s .....I certainly agree with you that Yamaha has placed reasonable limits on their engines (in fact Yamaha has downplayed the HP of their engines and deliberately governed the speed of them for USCG and insurance ratings)...... and from discussing the mods RIVA makes to the SVHO engines and some of the guys on the Australian racing circuit who have crazy staged their motors, I know the SVHOs can handle a lot more....it's just that I really hate to run marine motors to their edge.

You should see what limits really are on these engines. We will never even come close to abusing them in the boat platform. In my daughters Viper, the 1049 performs like a beast! We have thousands of miles in all RPM ranges. And many of folks in my Yamaha sled forum have turbo charged this same engine well over 250hp on pump gas and over 300hp with higher octanes. That will push them closer to the edge than we ever will.

When we joke about bullet proof, it's the application that allows us to say that.

On the 1.8's what are you guys seeing for max RPM?
Totally stock you can expect to see 7500 give or take a bit. The TR-1 engines rev higher stock I believe.

When I punch it WOT the revs jump to 7500 and off she goes with zero cavitation. If you're seeing higher revs, you probably have air getting into the jetpump?

I'm in Canada and we're not "CARB" regulated and no catalyst installed - the 3-star engines max out stock around 7500rpm. If you're seeing 8100, that's odd as I believe the stock rev limiter kicks in around 7800?

I have a 2020 212s as well, and am seeing around 7400 rpms... That's with about 12 hours on the boat and before the 1st service... Seems about right to me.

Mine is right about exactly 8000 and it hits it right off the bat and shoots off like a rocket
Same as I posted seeing about 7800-7900 on one engine just at or about 8k on the other; I’m right at sea level elevation...

I’d still say you can’t go wrong with the 1.8’s or the TR-1’s both are great platforms depending on what you’re trying to get into on the water...
