I have fun surfing the mushy crap wave behind my ar230 without any ballast, but i wouldn't mind getting a better wave. Transom ballast is out of the question because i enjoy starting and stopping from the transom and don't want anything back there in the way.

has anyone thought about using a trim tab and custom mount to perform the same action as the wake wedge to deflect the jet wash? My thought is that spending 1000 bucks on a defector board that you have get in the water and mess with to change sides is crazy. I'm the kind of guy that will spend hours engineering something to save me a few minutes, especially for on the water time. I want to hit a button, wait 5 seconds, and start riding.

how much would a ski locker bag help the wave? What about a rear locker bag? 500lb concrete blocks in a locker? I used 5 buckets full of concrete as ballast when i was a kid. $3 for 90lb!

You ever see what a wake wedge does?!
It's great! I feel the wedge plus enough ballast is the key but if you are surfing no ballast already the wedge will be amazing for you! Ifthe cost is the only thing holding you back keep an eye out for a used one!

As for weight, people are the best ballast because they have fun too! Plus they (should) bring beer and food!

What about thurst vector wakes? Looks like a smart idea for you!

I’m about 90% sure someone on here did an automated Gantlin wedge years ago. If you want a decent wave there is no way around adding ballast. You need all the displacement you can get. If you don’t want to spend the money on the wake wedge you can do the DIY horse mat.

If it was only that simple! But I’ll be watching, you of all people could do something novel!

So far, as far as I know the size, shape, and angle of the wake wedge seem to have an paralleled effect as far as the wave quality behind a Yamaha twin, in conjunction with swim platform bag.

Between various members of this forum countless surf mods have been tried including horse mat attachments, boosters, delayed convergence plates, deflectors, pipes, trim tab attachments - various shapes and sides, ASP, surf stream, surf point, etc. etc. you name it.
TVWs... you can surf both sides of the wake!!

So what's the single biggest improvement? What if i was just going to do one thing with a transom ballast out of the question. What would that be?

I mean, you need ballast, there is no way around it if you ever want to surf ropeless. Might be able to stuck it up on the upper tier of the swim deck, you would still be able to access the lower for starts/landings. If you weight the stern down and list the boat you can get a decent wave going in large circles to the surf side, without any shapers.

How much does the ski locker bag do? I don't use the locker much and that would be easy. I can ride 30-60 seconds without the rope now. This was a while back and I've figured out how to drive forward better. (Got a ws rope too)

I would say it does not do anything you could not supplant with human ballast.

With the 240s, too much transom ballast with nothing in the locker or bow can make for a non-starter, some boats may not come up to surfing speed.
