Padawan Learner we have all been there at one time. Lots of good advice above.
Stay courteous, proceed slowly and avoid trying to slice a spot out between boats that you are not ready for and the Death Stares will be minimal.
Anchoring my 19' was embarrassing till I finally got it beat into my head that it wasn't the anchor it was Me, the Boat, the Chain, the Bottom and the Wind/Current/Tide. Using a traditional Danforth Anchor-8'Chain-Anchor Line-Boat set up and anchor in 20' to 2' depth mainly sand (some rocks/reef but thats another story). No matter how deep/shallow the chain must lay on bottom, its the key to the anchor biting when you attempt the "set". When strong winds/current/tide are in play my 19' can swing in a big arc so I will set another anchor at the stern and draw them tight.
Practice & Patience will pay off.
