We bought a used 2010 AR210 about a month ago. When we picked it up the rear remote wasn't working. The service guys apparently tested it and said the rear remote was bad and we needed a new one.
We had other obligations and couldn't hang around but they sold me the part at cost so I could put it on later.

Well it's later and it's not working even with the new rear remote.

I'm electronic illiterate, is there an easy way to test the connection from the remote to the stereo to identify exactly where the problem lies or is this something I'll have to take to an audio shop?

sorry for no replies on this yet, I suspect Tuesday was a busy day and your posts was quickly bumped off the "new posts" first page and overlooked,
unfortunately I don't know much about stereos other than the remotes can be a problem,

If you still need help can you confirm what brand / model the stereo and remote are,

Doesn't appear they carry it anymore but this is what it looks like. Newer models have been redesigned a bit.

I called the service department to let them know it wasn't working. They mentioned a good way to test would be to take the remote and plug it in directly behind the receiver. The problem is that I don't see anywhere to connect it. The remote plug has 6 connectors (or 4) and it won't connect to anything under the dash behind the receiver.

My radio is totally different but my rear remote (not the portable one) went out twice. I simply stopped using it the second time. Each time the replaced the remote itself and everything worked for awhile. I was never asked to plug it in the rear of the radio. I can't imagine there is a connector there for the remote but yours may be different. If you replaced the remote itself and it still doesn't work then I would think it is either the radio or possibly the wiring (if water got to it in the back).

looking at your link, the picture where it shows the back of the unit on the left side are two sets of connectors, I think one of those will be labeled "remote"

I don't know about having the 4 or 6 connectors on the remote,

My stock remote changed plugs from behind HU to swim deck plug in. Maybe the connector is bad by swim deck? Loose connection. Could cut down connecters and direct wire with butt splices if it works solder and heat shrink. Or just heat shrink over butt splice.

I'll look again next time I'm at the boat but the remove connector looks like picture five. The problem is there's only about 1 pins on that connector but the one coming out of the back of the stereo has about 10.

what model/part number did they give you for the remote?
can you post a picture of the connectors for us, maybe they gave you the wrong remote unit?

Unfortunately I don't have the part number and it's in the boat. I'll have to look when I go back this weekend.

Is there an easy way to tell if I'm getting good power to the remote? Testing the cables the remote would plug into?
