Used Boats and Current Market

Are you talking housing, boats, lumber? Just curious about what's driving your thesis.

Obviously housing is hotter than sustainable right now, but the landscape is pretty different than it was back in 08/09.
Everything. Eviction moratorium is going to hurt the housing market. Won't be an overnight killer, but it will hurt. Jobs aren't back like pre-covid. The commercial buildings are going to hurt. So many companies went to work @ home and are not going back. You are going to lose a lot of that money from rental buildings that will now just be sitting. Inflation is crazy and I don't really see prices coming down too much. It will take awhile to catch up on production and by then, everyone will be so used to prices that they won't lower them. Combined that with all the free money that's been given out and the taxes that are already coming throughout the US because of it.

Economy is going to hurt. But, I could be wrong.

I get people jokingly/half serious asking to buy my boat. I tell them it would take north of 100k to make me sell.
If somebody offered me 100K for my boat it would be a tough decision!!! But I would consider it :)

I paid close to full pop in February of 2020 but that seems like a screaming great deal right now. Plus I got freebies - premium cover, winterization, 10 hour service, safety stuff, no delivery or setup charges. Doubt I could get that today.
@bigwaves - yes (IMO) you did VERY well. No way you could have gotten anything like that where i boat from at least march on...and what boats anyway, there just aren't any!

I went by a local Yamaha/power sports dealer (no boats) in March. The entire lot was stuffed full of atvs and side by sides. No room to park and crates stacked five high in the back.

When I went by again last week the lot was empty like they were out of business. The only thing they had for sale was two used and abused bro dozers they had taken for trade (never seen them sell vehicles b4) and one older used atv.

Which reminds me if anyone is looking for an 2008 Kawasaki mule 610 LMK. No idea on the hours as the meter stopped somewhere around 1000 years ago, some zip tied fenders etc. But it always starts. I’d let it go for what I’d paid for it new.

I bought my new MasterCraft last September and was finally able to put break in hours on it. I took it to my dealer for the first service and I was talking with my salesman and he said I was lucky to buy when I did because I would be paying 20K more if I were to buy my boat now.

Everybody is down to bare bones. Polaris dealership has nothing, Honda dealership has nothing. Thinking about a Pioneer and was told "you can put $1000 down and it might be here by October".

Fishing buddies can't upgrade trolling motors or Hummingbird depth finders.

Pioneer still makes boats? Wow

There is a couple of new listings for used boats at the local dealer in Indiana if anyone is still looking. Just Add Water Boats.

I guess it all depends on when in the season it is. For instance, A decent offer or price you could get at the end of the season, if you have other plans or want to upgrade/go in a different direction, is one thing that could be taken into consideration more easily. Right now at the beginning of the season that number would have to be significantly higher or have something else lined up.

That is exactly what happened last year for us. I threw my SX240 up on FB market place last September for what I bought it for 2 3 years prior. Guy drove overnight from 12 hours away to buy it 3 days later for 1,500 less that I bought it for. Figured I would get out while the getting was good. Got a pretty good deal (not the best but still 5-6k lower than it would sell for today) We lost a month of boating at the end of last season. I would assume if you sold it today your likely not going to get back on the water until the end of the year, if not next year.
