This year I signed up to be a boat driver for Wake the World in August and looking to see if anyone else has participated?

For those who don’t know, Wake the World is a non-profit charity that organizes events for foster families to spend the day out on a boat. Basically you offer up your boat for the day so they can enjoy boating and everything that entails.

Seems interesting. Nothing like that around us that I know of. If there was I would probably would do it also. Seems like a good pay it forward type of thing.

Seems like a great idea. I found the schedule of events on the website. They are all over the country this summer. I'm going to see if I can free up my schedule for the Alabama one.

What a great cause. Just checked out their website. Looking into an opportunity near me to volunteer my boat at.

Man, this is great!

We volunteer with the Gateway Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America (GPVA) who organize an annual waterski event, usually in Trout Lodge lake, Potosi, MO.
I believe we are on the short list for providing the boat this year but still waiting for confirmation.

Are you on the short list because they don't have enough volunteers, or because they have too many?

The latter. It’s a small organization, too.
I’ll keep you posted, it’s a fantastic event.
Hope they have it this year.

Currently we are officially the backup, so will be there with the boat, just in case something breaks down.

The main guy, Charley Wright (Charles.Wright6@va.gov), brings his own ski boat. Kate knows him through work, that’s how we connected. They also do disabled scuba group, the guy is amazing.

Here is the application, FYI, I don’t know if they may be already full.

There is not one at jordon or falls... June 20th has on at Kerr in clarksville but that's a little close for me... with all these lakes around central nc... and all the jetboaters.net members around here we should host one locally.

I'd love to help (although not sure my boat makes much of a wake worth using).

The one closest to me has a website that isn't working though.

We have done this and it is amazing. We did Green Peter last year and will be doing the July Foster Res this year. I'll be co-captain on an Axis T23, not my Yamaha. I assume you will be doing the Hagg Lake run?
Bring lots of bottled water, sunscreen, and snacks for your passengers. Most of the kids are not equipped or need additional sunscreen. Very rewarding.

Thank you for the feedback! I will be using my AR195 for the event planned in Central Oregon at lake Billy Chinook. My parents have some property over there within 5 minutes of the third boat launch. Thank you for the advice and I will make sure to have plenty of snacks and sun lotion. I'm thinking about taking my 5 year old daughter with me to be my flagger and to help get the kids into it. My only concern with bringing my daughter would mean that I would have to launch my boat by myself which I can do fairly fast, however with so many people and boats I don't want to hold anything up. What would you recommend?

We almost always have one of our boys with us to flag. My 9 year old helps a ton with making the kids feel more at home. He even went tubing with one of the groups last year. There will be so many volunteers there that help launching will be a non-issue.
Other thing we found helpful was music. We told the kids they could run the stereo so long as the song have no cussing. That and make sure your bimini is out first thing. Long day on the water and the shade helps.
If you see a white and sparkly blue 23 foot MB Sport at LBC wave hi - that will be our crew minus me.

That's great news, my daughter will be pumped!

I'm going to sign up for the Chesapeake Bay event in August

@DavisAR195 we did it with Brian from exile last year near eugene. Great experience....they have tons of volunteers helping around lunch time to get food onto the boats. Highly recommended

That's great! I met Brian this year at the boat show while looking over the new MB's, what a great guy!

Hey for any of you close to Oregon the Wake the World events on July 29th @ Fern Ridge Reservoir and the August 3rd event at Lake Billy Chinook are short on boats. They need 3-5 more boats at each event. Great way to donate your time! Find them on Facebook if you can attend. Thanks!
