I just got a call from a long time boating friend from another city. He received an email from the dealer he bought a 2018 boat from saying now was the time for a great trade-in or they'd just like to quote him a price to buy his boat. He spoke with the dealer who did say that they were taking orders for custom builds for the next two weeks - for boating season 2021. When he asked if "boating season" - which around here is May to October - meant a 2021 May/June delivery they said they hoped so. He did not place an order for a new boat but he did sell his 2018 to them. He said the offer was too good to pass on and he'd wait-out a boating year for a post COVID flood of "impulsive" buys or better 2022 deals. Just after speaking with him I also received an email from the dealer that I bought our 2018 Yamaha SVHO Cruiser and 2020 SX195 from asking if I wanted a purchase quote. To be honest I was seriously thinking about it but the Admiral (true boating boss around here) said no deal as she didn't want to chance missing a summer on the water. I like and respect my dealer so I didn't want to waste their time with a fake request that I knew I wouldn't (be allowed to LOL) accept. But - it does show what we have suspected on this forum - that demand for boats will likely outstrip availability and it will be a sellers' market, which also lends some weight to our suspicions that if a dealer calls one of us on the forum who is waiting for a boat and it may not be the color we want - but all other options are the same - it might be a smart play to take it? BTW drove past the car dealer we bought our SUV from and their huge lot doesn't have nearly the stock that it used to have and they send me emails all the time offering top dollar trade-in with a purchase discount. Got an offer from them last night on a 2022 which made me think - what - 2022? - what happened to the 2021's.... have they just given-up on 2021 LOL. Interesting times.
