Yes, If the boat is in the water then you should have the bilge on. Won't kick on unless there is water in the bilge, so it won't hurt your battery just leaving the switch on.
Maybe I missed something here. Yes, you should have the bilge pump on as long as the boat is in the water. If you have an original bilge pump, your bilge pump WILL kick on ever so often, check for presence of water and than shut itself off if no water is present. It will use some power but I have left mine on for days with no ill effects to the battery.
How is that Lake? I havent made it out there yet, but recently looked at maybe buying a house out there and transferring my job from Northern Virginia to Roanoke.... I may make a trip down there this summer....
@PaulyB Massive. And BUSY. Not much beachable shoreline. LOTS of houses, and really nice ones at that. Beautiful lake. Water temp was 75, and plenty deep. We had a great time, and will do it again next year.

Guess I should have asked if it was original bilge pump or after market one. The bilge pump was already replaced with an aftermarket one in my boat when I bought it 2 years ago. My bilge pump does not come on unless there is water in the bilge. Sorry for any confusion.
We had a great weekend at the lake! Water was about 73 and the whole gang enjoyed the dock and boat time playing and fishing! A few sun burns but that was the worst. hard to believe TX had just a rough time while it was so beautiful here. Once I get a chance I will load up some pictures of the kids doing some cliff jumping, tubing and wakeboarding. Maybe a fish picture as well!
