Does anyone have an idea what this could be? I am looking at purchasing this boat but am unsure if this motor/engine is in good condition.

Looks to me like something was spilled like oil and wasn't properly cleaned and it stained it. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Looks like a clean engine bay otherwise

It could be some type of residue left over from corrosion inhibitor. If that is a 2011 that engine bay is very clean

Question, on the exhaust manifolds, are there small "puddles" of brownish liquid in the seams of the manifold pipes? If so, then it's likely that the previous owner (and the cause of that browning), used Yamalube spray on his engines. That's a good sign of a well maintained boat.

I get the small "puddles" on my manifold every spring after the fall spraying of the motors before storage. However, my manifold pipes aren't brown though either, so I'd see if that wipes off.

Thank you, I will have to check the boat out again to answer that question.

Certain types of rust inhibitor have waxes and they leave that brownish stain. I would spray my trailer with different brands and some of them left the brownish tint as the coating aged. With the heat of the manifold it may be baked on. If it is a 2011 my concern would be the oil sump bolts that are known to snap not a huge deal but something to look out for.
