While cruising tonight we found a dog swimming in the middle of the lake. We turned around and he swam right over to the swim platform and climbed up. He seems really exhausted and overheated. No collar, no tags.

Any ideas?

Animal control or adopt yourself after making sure no one is looking for him.

Check Facebook / other social media. Take her to a vet to see if see has a microchip that identifies her and her owners.

@Bill D - I'm going with @Kennc on this one. IF he ran away someone will be looking for him. Despite what we did as kids I would't worry about making flyers.

Facebook would probably be your best bet. Or if you do make flyers post them at supermarkets. Definitely take him to get checked for a microchip - that should be your easiest option.

Otherwise I would keep him (at least till someone comes looking for him) - I'd go with "Mike" or "PHELPS"

Swing by the Humane Society or a local vet and have him scanned for a chip.

The wife posted on "Lost dogs of Tuscaloosa" Facebook. We asked a couple people around the location we found him, but no luck. We've been calling him every name we can think of, but we didn't try hydro...

We're going to let him hang out with us unless someone comes claiming him while we're on the lake. If not, he'll sleep at our house and we will start posting flyers tomorrow.

Meanwhile, he's settling in.

It looks like he's pretty happy and he has this "boat dog" thing figured out.

As a huge dog and Lab lover sure hope the owner's are missing him and want him found. Maybe they will set out flyers. He looks well cared for. Does he know the basic commands: sit, stay, come, etc.? Labs are such fantastic dogs; especially for boating and all things water.

That was fantastic of you to pick him up. I would keep him if owner's are not found. If you feed him be prepared for some diarrhea as the food you are giving him will not be his "normal" food and until his body adjusts there could be some "issues." A little rice in the food may help with the transition; a vet will know.
