Getting close to purchasing a new Yamaha AR 240. I’m just curious as to what type of deals people have gotten on a new purchase recently (2020 models) . I’ve heard Yamaha doesn’t allow much, if any, off of sticker price, but did you get financing deals, warranty, accessories, or some other deal?

Trying to get a general idea so that I’m armed with as much information as possible before stepping into the dealership. Looking to purchase at Cycle Springs in Clearwater, FL.

Thanks everyone, this forum has been a wealth of great information.

Best place to buy in the Tampa area. If they still have the AR240, jump on it. With the shutdown, they are almost out of boats and skis. Crazy as that sounds!! You should be able to take advantage of the Yamaha 3.99 financing. Get the 5 year warranty, if you dont use it in years 4 or 5, they will give you your money back!!

Won’t get much of a bargain here at the beginning of the season I’m afraid. Maybe around Labor Day or so, if there is inventory. Best you’ll do is some freebies from the dealer, maybe accessory discounts, etc.

I spoke with a friend who is looking to buy a boat and he can't find anything that he wants. Inventory is out, or they are going over MSRP. If you find something that you are somewhat satisfied with I would jump on it and get a deposit on it.

Yeah you're not in a good position to buy for a couple big reasons:
1) Dealers have to order their inventory in 2019 for this season, they basically ask for what they want (unless there's a down payment on an ordered boat) and may or may not get what they want. Limited stock = no reason to discount.
2) Trying to get a deal in May is near to impossible for the aforementioned reason plus everyone else has the same idea.

Best time to buy is after boating season into January. That said, while you can negotiated a couple thousand off of a new boat, there's not a huge margin to work with, even when the dealers are hungry. You're better off negotiating in a cover / accessories / 10 hour service / trade-in price to help move the needle.

All in all, if you want a nice boat, money shouldn't be your biggest pain point. Boats are depreciation monsters that live at the bottom of a money pit. Buy what makes you happy, don't sweat the nickles and dimes.

It's always hard negotiating price on brand new boats with Yamaha dealers due to the lack of competition within states, and probably near impossible now. Good news is that if you're financing, you'll save more money on the new Yamaha manufacturer promos over the life of the loan then you would negotiate down anyway. You can pick between 1.99% for 60 months, or 3.99% for 180 months. Either one is far better than you can get from any lender and will save you thousands.

If I were you, I'd start by trying to get your dealer to come down 3k (watch out for their extra fees)... when they don't, then negotiate for freebies which they'll have a much easier time accomodating. Some key ones are the $900 mooring cover which is never included, but is absolutely mandatory (the shipping cover you get is terrible). Also the anchor that fits in the anchor storage is usually not included. I see you're in Florida, so the Shorelandr trailer probably should be upgraded to aluminum as well. All the aforementioned things are must-haves and others on here have gotten them added for free in their deals.

Also watch out for closing time, where you will likely get upsold on warranties and other things you didn't know you needed (and probably don't). :)

Good luck!

Buy used if you can, I got 6,000 off nada on my 2015 ar190. Deals are out there if your willing to travel.

I don't understand why people are under the impression that you can't get a deal on a Yamaha boat, you can get a deal.

UPDATE...So I called the dealer and they said they have no AR240’s in stock. Although they do have several 242s and 242x. Both a touch more than Id like to spend.

Spoke to the owner who advised that the Yamaha plant in TN has been closed for the past 9 weeks and just recently opened back up. He checked his order logs and stated they have a blue AR240 that’s scheduled for delivery in June (unknown exact date). My question is if I place a deposit down on that boat, does that qualify me for the available incentives offered by Yamaha that are set to expire 5/31? The disclaimer advises “must take delivery of retail stock”. I really must have the 3.99% and I was hoping to get the mooring cover, fenders, anchor, lines, and Stoltz bow rider thrown in with the deal. Is this practical? Thanks all for your advise.

I can't remember who it was, but on another new boat thread someone was in the same position at the end of April. I believe they confirmed they still were able to get the incentives advertised.

Yes, minus the bow roller, yamaha doesn't sell that. And there are much better fenders/lines for our boat out there than the Yamaha ones, check out "Mission Fenders" and "floating dock lines" (can't get sucked up by the jet as easy)

I got the April incentives and closed in May last week. I believe I read somewhere if the transaction closes by the 10th or so of the next month they honor the previous incentive or somehow they can still book it for the previous month. I believe once you can get an HID you can close the loan. Would recommend getting good confirmation on this though.

You can absolutely get a deal, no question. I got $5k off retail. The week after Labor Day. In Wisconsin. On a 2018 as the 2019’s were rolling in.

I'd be careful of that. My dealer said the same thing, but then they couldn't find a way in the system to back date it. Hoping afterwards they were able to do it, otherwise my sales guy had to eat my 5 year warranty. They promised me the April incentives and I closed May 1st, deal was no longer in the system even if they backdated it. The financing portion carried over, so that was no big deal, but the warranty was now 3 years and not 5. They honored the previously agreed upon deal and I walked out with my warranty as promised. However, it was no longer an available incentive. If it is possible then hopefully your dealer can find out how to do it in the system.

On the deal portion: That varies WIDELY per area, time of year, economic outlook, etc. I got an ok deal, little off MSRP, but after talking to every dealer within 200 miles they were all basically within a couple hundred one way or another. For some reason NC and surrounding dealers don't really give these massive deals I see coming out of FL, WI, and part of MI. Challenge with that is many of those dealers won't sell to out of state people with that same deal. I considered taking a trip if I could save 5-7k.....but they say you need to reach out to your local Yamaha dealer. I didn't try the WI, and MI ones as I wasn't planning on driving 20 hours there and back to get a boat.

I guess the problem is just this very unique point in time, where the pandemic as created a very unique scenario. Low stock, People buying boats more than usual and Production was stalled for a couple of months. This has a tendency to drive the price up usually.

Quite a different situation than buying a 2020 the week before memorial day. There's always end of season and boat show deals. Getting a deal at the start of summer when the factory has been shuttered? Boat prices across the board are up, used too.

At this point, wait until September and go north. Save $5,000+

If you can grab that AR240...do it.

My understanding is that Yamaha might only be releasing another 400 boats before they shut down and retool for the 2021's. Thats 400 for the entire US

If you find a price you are comfortable with, can afford, and the boat that you want, just do it. You will get an extra summer/season with it. Hunting the absolute best deal sometimes will bite you, it has for me at times. I can't even count how many things in my life I waited for to get a better deal or the exact right time that have come and gone and never came through - or i missed out on because I was being stubborn. I should of bought this boat years ago. With everything that is going on who knows what the future is, but I do know, now that I picked up my boat today that I will enjoy it with my family and hopefully friends this summer, and that is what's most important. Sometimes it is the journey and life's experiences, not the best price or cost.
