I just noticed on of the wheels on the trailer has blue grease leaking out. Comparing to the other wheel it looks like it is missing a cover. any idea where to get that from and how to install it? I launched few times before noticing this so wondering if water would have caused other issues.

Thanks for any tips.IMG_1680.JPG IMG_1681.JPG

That does not look good. Does the other end just have a hub cap? I assumed you would have some sort of bearing buddy type device with a grease zerk on the end.

I can tell for sure from the picture but I believe the bearing and grease are exposed. If so dirt is a bigger issue than water exposure. Most likely the bearings need to be replaced. At a minimum the grease needs to be removed and repacked. Then go buy yourself some Bearing Buddies to keep fresh grease in the bearings.

Any time I find a wheel bearing cover missing my first mission is to check the bearings , nearly every time a bad bearing allowed the wheel hub to get slop in it and knock off the cap . This looks relatively new so perhaps the bearings were not tightened properly or someone just did not put the cap on correctly but it is easier to check it on your terms to be sure what the cause is rather than getting stuck on the highway with a failed wheel bearing. been there done that!

Same issue with my trailer. Just came back from a trip to the lake - 2+ hours each direction...
Yesterday morning came out out noticed grease on the rim of the tire.
Need to get this fixed asap, but am clueless about what to do.
Any and all help is appreciated...

You aren't just missing the "bra", but the entire "bearing buddy". I had this happen recently after having my trailer serviced. Note that the brearing buddy is a pressure fit. It is just hammered on.

At first glance i saw just the "bra" missing too. Then i was like oh dang! Something is missing behind it!
I need to find a cover for mine actually, kids took off and used for digging stones by playground, lol

Most autoparts stores, Tractor Supply and Walmart sell bearing buddies and the caps. It is the standard 1.98 inch size.

@MrWizard, I am guessing that your trailer actually had a Trailer Buddy instead of Bearing Buddy. Either will work fine. I prefer the Trailer Buddy because it is easier to see the grease level.

This is the factory UFP Trailer Buddy for $24 for a pair http://www.easternmarine.com/trailer-buddy-1-980-s-s-bearing-protectors-07500u

I prefer these caps for $1.75 to the rubber boots since you can see the grease level when these are in use http://www.easternmarine.com/trailer-buddy-bearing-protector-cap-07509
