Hhello, this is my first post here, honestly as a kinda last ditch attempt. My Dad and I are wanting to build a jet boat project, how ever we are having an issue coming up with engines options. We enjoyed the idea of the Indmar 2.3 engine, as it also had a ready made pump to go with it. How ever after some effort to contact them, it turns out they won't sell a set to the hobbist. And we really don't want to deal with a donor situation as we had jestskiis, and they were a nightmare to work and get parts for. But we also just don't want to fuss with that stuff, as we've rebuilt engines before and its a pain.

My dad talked about getting a Subaru boxer engine to marinise it if we did go that route. But honestly that's getting outside our expertise. And we want to be confident in the engine if we decide that we would prefer a different size/style of a Mini Jet boat and want to turn around a sell it after learning what we want to know.

I know it's a lot of talk for a simple question, but does anyone know where we can get a turnkey engine and accompanying pumps for around a 10 to 12 foot MiniJet. Preferably something with enough power so it can get up and scoot. We're around the Atlanta Georgia area, if any locals have the answer.

For a small boat, why not a 2016 or newer 1.8L Yamaha? Or even an MR-1 three cylinder. You should be able to find one in a donor jet ski with all the necessary electronics and, since they're still being manufactured, parts should be readily available. Not only that, but you''ll be able to mate up a pump assembly without issue.

Plus they're basically bullet proof...

Mainly because those are hard to come across. If we see anything listed, it's either essentually brand new skiis that are out of our budget especially for a donor, or old enough to drink.

No matter what route you go it will be expensive, a doner ski will be the cheapest way to do this as expensive as it seems. Any other way will be custom fab to make work.
Tons of parts available if you buy something within the last 12 years.
I work on these boats and jetskis for a living and they are easy to work on.
If you buy a donor, you cut the hull open with a sawzall and strip it out. The rest is easy.
Lots of crashed skis out there.
An Indmar setup will coat quite a bit i am sure
