Would 1200cc or bigger fit in an sx230?

So at the end of the year I blew my motor and need an entire new block as it threw a rod threw the side of the block. So my question just like most guys is can I go bigger. Yes I would have to replace both but I'm kinda leaning that way anyhow.
First has it been done? Would it bolt in with new motor mounts? Would it handle it?
Any knowledge would be great.

There r people on here with light years more k owledge than me but i wpuld first wonder if it would do any good. It would seem there is a finite amount of thrust from the jet set up.... you would have to go with a larger pump and nozzle maybe? And there is the question of feed the water to a larger pump through the same diameter intake as the original pump.

And now for the people who know what they are talking about to chim in!

Are you referring to a 1200 2 stroke?
If so i doubt its possible.
I am not aware of a 1200 4 stroke

To be honest I don't know. I do want to stay with a 4 stroke. I just want more speed.
Is there a bigger 4 stroke that you know of?

I am only aware of yamaha making the 1000 4 stroke and 1800 4 stroke and to put a 1800 in your boat could be quite a challenge

They do offer different hp rated 1000s
Not sure which one came in your boat

There are two MR1’s. The HO has color on the engine top and the non HO is black and white.

I believe it "can" be done, if you wanted to upgrade to the 1.8L/1.8L SC engines, but the cost will quickly climb, unless you can find a wrecked boat to scavenge the entire drivetrains from. You'll need engines, computers, possibly dash gauges, wire harnesses, intake/exhaust piping etc. May have to McGyver some connections for the exhaust if they don't exit in the same direction or angle, and possibly fabricate some motor mounts or adapter plates, if they dont line up. Not impossible, Seems like a lot of work and money.

If thats the case you have the highest rated hp motor for your boat

your option would be to upgrade to 1.8l engine if more displacement was the goal but as @zelone it would be a costly conversion. I know Riva at one point made a turbo kit and a supercharger kit for the MR-1 engine but I know there were known issues of those kits blowing motors in fact I think Riva only made a very limited amount of them so not sure if they are still available. Before I would upgrade to 1.8l's though I would just look at upgrading the boat as I think the cost could quickly escalate to to $20K+ to do so and you could probably pick up a 2010-2012 240 in the low 20's in you shopped I sold my 2011 last year for $27K

27k is a great price. I havent seen many 24 footers sell under 30k. Hell, I'd buy another, if they were in the low 20's haha. 12-13 seem to be the best. Oil cooler issue was resolved and the timing chain issue hadn't started yet. No touchscreen or tack issues to deal with yet.

Sounds like a fun project and a potential massive money pit at the same time. I like your thinking though, if you have to replace then upgrade too. How is the rest of your boat holding up? Is it worth the time and money to do this? Why did it break? How many hours were on the engine? I know that's a lot of questions, but they're not just for me, they're for the rest of the board too.

They are out there for sure there are a few listed on boat trader on for between 24k-28k I think I only paid 23k for my 2011 SX240 with 60 hours and 8 months of YES warranty left two years ago. Just have to find the right situation sometimes the one I bought needed some heavy clean up but with a little elbow grease it was a great boat.

An engine swap would be serious custom work. If you can fiberglass engine mounts, rewire complete engine harnesses, and plumb custom exhaust exhaust it will be possible. I'd plan on a dash swap to do you don't need gauge conversion equipment. Just buy a ski and swap the engine of you want to keep it easy.

The HO MR-1 is the best bolt in motor you can do.
The 1800 (1.8) motors are a little longer and have a slightly different pump setup in the hull. I believe you would be doing extensive and expensive work to make it happen. HOWEVER, you could probably fit a small block v8 and find a way to split power to both pumps. There are 160mm pump upgrades you can do at that point.
But as stated before, unless you are just looking for a very expensive hobby, just go buy a newer boat.
The MR-1 doesn't have much room for improvement because it is a very high compression high rpm motor already. Believe me, I looked into it. The turbo kit was too much for the fuel system and they weren't ever able to crack the computer to tune it properly and by the time they blew a few motors Yamaha was coming out with the 1.8's so it was pointless. The 1.8's you can buy supercharged motors from ski's and swap that in place of the N/A ones. If you want a heck of a fast Yamaha, buy yourself an early 1.8 powered 212/210 or one with blown motors, and then grab two ski's and swap the supercharged motors and ecu's into it. I think they say they are around 250 hp so you would have a 500 hp Yamaha!
Then again, Scarab and Chapparrel do that from the factory for a lot less work.

With enough time and money the US government and Nasa put a man on them moon.... Can it be done?...Sure!!! Is there any chance it will be cost effective/worth it? I feel very strongly the answer is no. You will be much better off economically and otherwise upgrading to the boat/engine combination you really want. No way around it, the drivetrain is quite custom, and there are not equivalent options to consider.
