Hi guys this form has helped me a lot in the past so I’m hoping it will help again now. I have a 2015 Yamaha 212ss (twin 1.8 ho). One of my engines sounds much different than the other one. I’m not sure what it could be but it is very noticeable in person. I am attaching a video of the two engines starting below. It’s hard to tell in the video but the starboard engine is noticeably “quieter” than the port engine. It’s hard for me to put it into words but the starboard engine sounds more muffled than the port engine. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds to me like the starboard is normal and the port is a little growly. Possibly one of the bearings in the jet pump. Have to see what some of the more seasoned members think but that’s my guess.

Hard to tell from that angle. The things I would check is the coupler behind the motor, the impeller condition and clearance and last the grease behind the pump cone.

Drive it in the water and see if it quiets down , I notice when I first start there is not a lot of water in the muffler and the engine is loud then after a minute or 2 the engine gets a lot quieter this has been the rule for as long as I have had 1800 engines. also it can be that the water box does not have enough water in it all the time perhaps a hose is clogged and the engine has less water and the exhaust has less water than it should have.

Have you had it in the water yet this season or just starts on the hose?
