I have on 08 sx230 ho got a great deal on it under 20k last fall. It needed some tlc and we did all new seats for 2800. I love boat. My brother in law has a fish 210 and he has said the build quality seams to be better on the older boats. Since his is center console the layout is different but interior room seems comparable. The swim deck on the sx is really big so alot of the extra room seems to be out there. We took 4 adults and 3 kids out and it was crowded. As far as power goes unless we are running wide open you won't notice a big drop off.

Also make sure you check trailer condition. I've spent more time and almost as much money on new tires, jack,wench, and lights. And still need to replace the post and other things on the trailer.

So let me ask you guys this....

What would be a good price on these boats? I mean nada is a guide, but not the end-all on this. I know the market is inflated on a lot of stuff. If the prices are that bad, then maybe I should save myself the headache and wait. I do not want to do that but if a boat is now 10k more now than it normally is, then that's an issue because it won't stay inflated forever.

So for example, what would a 2009 SX230 go for then vs now? How about the 2012 SX210, then vs now? 2012 242 Limited S? 2010 212SS? These are the 3 main boats that I have been looking at. Just wondering how inflated the prices are now versus what you guys would consider "normal".

As far as the trailer was concerned, I did not ask about the year of the trailer but it looked great. It was galvanized, dual wheel, very clean, and it had that auto break control on it. The way he explained it to me was that it did not use the break control from your vehicle. He said that there is a sensor that when the weight shifts on the trailer, the brake engages based on the amount of pressure it gets. It had a name but I do not remember it. The trailer looked in great shape. The boat was also in good shape. I think the boat had some normal wear on it, the black non-slip stuff on the floor seemed worn, a couple small vinyl tears/holes, and some knicks on the exterior around the bumper guard, but it was in nice shape from what I could see.

My boat was in good shape, everything original, snap in carpet, all of the seats are in great shape other than one seat had a small 2" tear in it we had fixed($150 & you'd never know it was done), hull had minor blemishes as far as scratches and was starting to oxidize lightly. Trailer was in good shape with new bias ply tires. We paid $19k for it late last summer.

I polished the hull, installed new HU, speakers, added tower & mid cabin speakers, Seadeck throughout, 2nd bilge pump, rebuilt cleanout plugs, started replacing rusted OE hose clamps, installed tow valves and did some soundproofing of the engine hatch. Also put radial tires on in place of the bias ply the trailer came with. I've seen 07-09 SX & AR230's go for $25-27k depending on location, the shape they're in & if there is anything aftermarket installed. Yes you can find cheaper but they are going to probably have seats that need reupholstered, hull wet sanded, polished and other maintenance issues.

We have a 2009 232 Limited S that we bought 3 years ago and paid $22k. We absolutely love it! We mainly use it on a local river but hit up random lakes here and there. We only fill it up twice a year. That being said, we mostly hang out at the sandbar after the 15 minute drive up the river but we also pull kids on the tube every time we go out. We have had zero issues with the engines. Our seats are starting to show wear and tear, but nothing major. Just the main spots where everyone steps are splitting. We just cover with vinyl tape for now, but will replace these next year. We have a tower and added a new custom Bimini last month ($1,000) as the original one was done. We also added Seadek this summer as well and it made it look like a whole new boat! My husband also rebuilt the cleanup plugs and added soundproofing to the fuel hatch. Will add soundproofing to the engine hatch as well. We are looking into upgrading the speakers now. Our boat came with the trailer that was in great condition. We did have a bunk break last summer and my husband replaced them all with composite boards. It looks like a new boat and everyone always comments on how good it looks.

I would suggest you look at it the other way: If you move on the 210 and don't like it, you can probably post it on Craiglist or somewhere and get rid of it (and at a profit right now). I don't think the $20k is very overinflated, if at all (in fact it seems below market right now), but it is true that if you hunt around awhile (and not this year when things are all being snatched up) you could find a 230 for $2-4k more. All of that assumes a sea trial goes well (no water in the oil, no leaks, etc.) and the engine compression checks out. Those probably cover the major things.

Or, you could wait a year or two and, post COVID, many think that lots of folks will be selling the boats they got to ride out COVID. Then there will be a glut on the market, if that holds.

But to answer your question directly, I don't know the premium on the used market right now for these particular models/years. I doubt anyone has those specific numbers, really. We do what you did (look at comparables, ask around). There is a margin of error there, of course. Rarely is anything apples to apples (upgrades are not the same, etc.).

That's a very good point and what I have been thinking most of today. I could probably go on forever wondering about which boat I should buy and how much I should pay. As long as I feel like its not a bad deal, then I guess selling it shouldn't be terribly difficult.

As for the market, well I did look a little late last summer and have some of those prices saved, but otherwise I do not know the pre-covid market well enough to know how different the prices were for boats like we have been talking about. I figured it was a longshot but worth a shot.

@Babin Farms It sounds like you got a good deal and have done a lot of "tweaking" to your boat. From the pics, I would never guess it is a 2009 and I would definitely jump all over one like yours if it were available and not priced crazy! Definitely an awesome boat.

I got my 2006 SX230 in February for $13.5k from a dealer that go it from a wholesale auction. Hadn't really been cleaned up and needed some minor work like new rear deck mats, ski locker hatch, anchor, etc. Obviously buying in the winter helps a lot and it probably ended up being a pretty good deal. Probably would go for 22-25k now but i have no desire to upgrade.
