Hey Everyone,
We live in New Jersey and sadly it's time to pack up the boat for the winter soon. I have the yamaha cover that straps around the boat but I was wondering if that is made to survive the winter with snow and all. Let me know your thoughts!
Were here in PA, we will winterize, remove the batteries, cover with the Yamaha cover. We are fortunate enough to have a RV cover that we will use as a secondary cover, it will go over the Bimini top and keep any rain -snow from building up should slide off as we have the posts under the boat cover. Lucky that we can keep a close eye on it over the winter.
@jacoviii , so you just put the tarp over your white shipping cover? I'm looking to do something similar for my 195S, but have concerns about proper venting. The white shipping covers from Yamaha (at least on the new boats) have vents near the top of the cover. Boat will be in my driveway so I will be able to check on it and partially uncover occasionally.
I’m leaving the premium Yamaha cover on then I’m covering the entire boat, wake tower up with a high quality tarp. The tarp has D rings spaced every few feet. I’ll use ratchet straps with noodles spaced so the straps don’t scratch or mark the hull. Yes, the tarp isn’t cheap but I should get many years of use. Use of a tarp will let me get inside if want to during the winter. Many moisture absorbing buckets will be placed inside.

Yep, definitely not cheap. It’s a thick tarp, not the kind you might find in a discount or home improvement store. I hope to get several years of use. Three years of shrink wrapping would cost as much as the tarp.
The tarp will cover the entire boat with the mooring cover in place beneath. The height of the wake tower supporting the tarp should not let very much snow accumulate on the tarp and my mooring cover won’t fade.
Trailerable boat cover of iCover, I was a little concerned about the size but the sizing description was accurate and it fits my boat as expected. The pictures do not show that there are also clips at the front of the cover and two at the back of the cover and three shorter straps to secure the front to the tongue of the trailer and the back to either the trailer or the bottom of the motor. I secured the back to the back of the bunk boards. It took me about 20 minutes to install the first time at which time I drove almost 200 miles topping out at roughly 75 mph and had no issues with the cover ripping or coming loose. Highly recommend !!
I'm wrapping the boat this year. Have used shipping cover the last three years, but they give up the ghost, often without warning. I even got a new one for last year, looked intact all winter but when I opened it up in the spring it had clearly been letting a ton of water in. Everything was wet and mold was starting to grow on the gelcoated surfaces (not upholstery, thank god), but I think if I had waited a few more weeks until it warmed, would have been much worse.
Wrap+vents and lots of damp rid. Considering having them put in a zippered access door on the stern in case I want to do any projects over the winter. Got two quotes for $290-340.
