Bimini 2015 - July 6th to 11th

GPS coordinates in bottom left and bottom right of picture.

This Wild Kratts episode features the staff of The Bimini Shark Lab and shows snorkeling and lemon sharks in the mangroves.

If I'm reading Andy's post correctly, the gps coordinates on the left are of the observing aircraft, the coordinates on the right are the target's.

I'd also be very careful approaching that area. Planes are very light and wave action could easily push the plane quite a distance. It would be a shame to smack it at speed if it's in shallow water!

I believe the converted coordinates on the right are 25•41.817, -79•10.100 which is in 6.5 feet of water 4.8 miles east of South Bimini.

I figured the same it would have to be a little of a search effort to find it as I'm sure it has shifted from it's location it was in back in December. Carefull aproach will be used it that area.

very cool. hopefully this one doesn;t pose a safety hazard and delivers with good snorkeling!!!

Have any of you ever ran to Alice Town? In planning for next year, my dad said there is not much to do on Bimini but Alice Town has or had a lot. This is coming fromthe last time he was there which was about 15 years ago.

The north end of north bimini is developing quickly. There are bars/casinos/shops and such up there

Alice town may yield a conch salad and cold beer roadside but is a pretty poor area. The entire island of bimini is a mere 5-6 miles long maybe????? A 1/2 day on a golf cart will show you everything the mainland offers

Bimini has plenty to do in the short 6 days there. Snorkeling /boating/lounging with friends will fill the days FAST. If your a fisherman add that.

We are already planning, as soon as dates are set for next year we will reserve rooms etc. We will be fishing and snorkeling maybe some diving if we want. Im looking for a unique get away, to meet some of the folk from this site and generally have a good time. I am digging the Margaritaville machines...

He said Alicetown has always been poor but it is a great place to experience the real island life. He said there were some excellent hole in the wall places to eat that he wants to visit again. We are thinking at least one day going there. I have never been so I am game for anything. :)

I have in hand, a whole pile of immigration forms. Leonard came through for us!

are these scanable so as to print out and fill out before hand?

No, they have to be done on the original form. I have over 100 of them. Should be enough for everyone. They'll be distributed at the captains meeting.

However, the captain of each boat should be filling out the customs forms before hand for their boat. That form can be downloaded and printed out.

should we see if bimini sands can have customs meet us there I know it said on their web site it could be arranged I would imagine a group of this size would qualify for that or is that not really an option?

That request has already been made. It was made for last year's trip also, and no one was there to meet us. It took a trip to the airport and some long waits to clear through. Hopefully this year things go smoother faster.

One concern with having customs at the Sands is that they might want to board a boat or two to see what people are bringing to the island. Not sure it is worth the risk.

To speed up going through customs some can go to the Big Game club on North Bimini to go through customs there, they are setup to handle more people. This is where I plan on going through customs and then go to the Sands to check into the condo.

OK just registered my entire party for SVRS, we will be in the Miami office for interviews from 9-11.
