Time for a Grill

@Bruce @Julian wonder if this would work on a '15 and up 24' series boat. I can't recall how much room is between anchor door and front tip of boat. I may have to swing by storage and measure before ordering mount.

We have our grill mounted in the bow too. I also like being away from all the action and having plenty of prep space when cooking. Here are a couple pics of our set up.

The bow mounting does seem like a good idea, like others have said, the stern is where the kids go in and get out of the water over and over, I can see having a hot grill there might be an issue

I typically stand and grill. Mounting on the bow places it quite a way above the floor. It may be a little low for standing and probably a little high for sitting but it has never bothered me.

I do sit to use the cutting board on the seat but it is well within reach of tongs to move food from one place to another.

@Bruce did you center the hole for the grill directly behind the navigation light? My bud @Coastal44 offset it to the side. I'm not sure which way I should go. I have the same setup that you have.

@mark_m on my 230 I went to the Port side offset from the nav light. I enjoyed it there. It was still easy to reach from the seat. I'm taller and could sit and grill and also reach as I stood in front of the grill.

I do not have any need to lean forward. The grill is within easy reach. Thinking about it I may have my knees on the front seat sometimes. It is a comfortable work area.

I don't have my boat to look at, but don't you need to drill some sort of hole up front to get the grill to mount? I read Bruce's thread and he talks about 3 screws and a bracket, doesn't the grill leg insert into a female portion on the boat?

Yes, but drills are fun.

I believe I used a 1" holesaw to make the hole for the mount. The mount has a rubber cover to prevent water intrusion. Even if water did get in there it would run out through the anchor locker drain.

Ha! I talked my dealer into 2 legs because the Yamaha site said '2 table mounts'. I think he figured out a way to charge me anyway, but it felt good at the time.

Congrats @Michael Rasmussen on your new 242X. I just bought one as well and the dealer was giving a 20% discount on all accessories so I bought the following Grill setup among other accessories.
- I bought a Magma Catalina II grill - its bigger than the Newport so I am concerned it will fit into the porta-potti/changing area. Once I get it I'll find out! Nothing ventured Nothing gained.
- I bought another table leg for mine with a mount so we could still use the table. Time will tell if the stern is the right spot for us or we move it to the bow and use the 2nd table leg for a another table.
- I also bought a bag for it and plan to store all the accoutrements in it and then put the bag in the porta-potty area as mentioned above.

I think I am going to go with offset mount. Folks be mindful of the wires feeding the nav light when drilling!

@Michael Rasmussen, I have the same setup as shown in @Benny Sibbitt's pic. I purchased the extra table leg. I store all of my grilling stuff, (extra table leg, utensils, lighter, propane, shelf, disinfectant wipes) in the Magma carrying bag that is designed to hold the grill. As far as cleaning, I usually get some grease in the drip pan, so I wipe it up with disposable disinfectant wipes before putting it away. My carrying case fits nicely under the starboard bench seat in the cockpit where the cooler is supposed to go. I don't use the "Yamaha" cooler that came with the boat.
I used the Magma Pow'r Grip Levelock to mount the grill to the table leg. I used an ABS sleeve (plumbing drain pipe) on the inside of the table leg to get a better grip between the leg and the pow'r grip. It takes me 3 minutes to set up, including the time to pull it out from the seat storage.

$142 here. Still pricey but I really prefer having it in the back. To each his own.

I think I would like the grill better in the back as well, but I learned first hand why you need to keep it away from where the kids are.

Last Labor Day weekend we spent a whole day with relatives who were on their boat. We stopped at a beach and high tide came in while we were grilling with the grill sitting on the sand. My six year old daughter fell on top of the grill because of the small beach due to the rising tide and burned the back of her leg so badly that I threw everything out of the boat and took off full speed back to the ramp. I nearly beached the boat and left it while waiting for the ambulance at the ramp. She wound up okay after an ER and follow up at Children's but that sure taught me some lesssons that day. 1. Have a plan if you need to get back to the ramp and you are the only one who can drive the boat, truck, and trailer. 2. The boat will never go fast enough when you need it to. 3. Grill far away from kids.

Here are a few pics of my setup. Coleman grill ($90) with storage bag that holds 2 bottles of gas ($25), two straight rod holders ($60), perfect fit magma level mount ($65), filet table/magma level mount bundle ($100). It's small enough to store in any compartment except the anchor locker. Locating the grill in the bow allows me to use it from the beach (assuming the boat is beached of course). To limit the amount of clean up we line the bottom with foil, after the grill cools we simply fold up and toss out the foil, I only find grease in the catch when I am careless about putting the foil in place. Overall, I am happy with this system. Good stuff!
