Anyone have a chance to test out the new TR1 motors? Thoughts? I am looking at buying at 2017 AR210 or AR240 and am struggling on which one to buy. The 240 would be stretching the budget a bit. What is the difference in fuel economy between the 2?

I'm also curious. I don't think we know to be honest, boattest has botched the numbers in their most recent review, so that is not particularly helpful.
Hopefully some TR-1 owners will chime in - it's about time!

I am also looking forward to an honest review. The AR210 could be a legitimate watersports boat with some mods.

Not sure if this will be much help, but I bought 2 2016 Yamaha VX Deluxe jetskis with the new TR1 motors. They are fast and seem reliable. Lots of room. Easy to work on. As far as power with 2 in a boat, I think they would give you a total of about 225 hp, so probably quite adequate.

Not sure if this helps. But Yamaha has been using the same basic block (1049cc engine) in 3 different snowmobile models since 2008 (Vector, Nytro and Viper). And they are reliable as hell!

Agreed, I don't understand how we are still waiting on these figures.

This motor is also in some Artic Cats and I was extremely impressed with how it performed. However the sled motor is at 135 horsepower. Why is the boat motor less? Are the 18's getting a bump?

The Arctic Cat sled is the same as the Yamaha Viper (shared platform between the two companies). My guess is the difference in hp has to do with the operating rpm. In the snowmobile world, these engines run up close to 9000rpm, making peak hp around 8700-8900rpm. The boats don't run that high of rpm, thus the lower hp.

FYI (sorry if getting off topic from the op) - I have this engine in my 2015 Yamaha Viper (1049cc 3-cylinder). But I'm running an aftermarket turbo kit on it, boosted to 180hp. Yeah baby!

I would like to know more also. TR1 or HO engines is a big question in my book.

Being my 1st boat an AR210 with the TR1 setup might be perfect.

We have a new AR210 and I like the motors. Not sure if the MR1 would make it a little faster but the bimini is only rated for 45mph and the boat does 44mph with the TR1. Can't really tell a difference on sound, it's always loud while on plane. But overall can't tell a big difference.

I did test drive a 210 and was impressed, however this is coming from a guy that has not driven a 21'or 24' with the bigger motors. I will tell you it seem to plain faster than a 19' with the normal 1.8 even though the top end speed is similar to the SX/AR 190's. They also seemed to have the torque that people were looking for, I feel at the end of the day you are only missing top end speed compared to bigger motors. Obviously I'm sure the twin 1.8's are faster planning out however I would say it's not necessary (as in my opinion the boat got up to speed at a good rate). One other thing there was only 5 of us on the boat. Keep in mind I was just test driving so I don't have any stats on my tests. I will say I loved the sound of the motors, they sounded pretty deep. This reminds me of how impressed I was with this motor on a sled during the winter months. In the end I ended up going with a AR195, mostly due to the ability to keep my boat in my garage at home. If storage was not an issue I'm sure I would of ended up with a 210. However I will add that the 21' seems huge compared to the 19', on our test drive it was a sales guy, my wife, the boys who are still young, and myself. If we boated on bigger bodies of water on a regular basis that would of influenced my decision to jump up to the 210 as well. However we only hit a few big lakes a year, keep in mind for a 19' boat I have always been impressed on how well they handle the waves.

I just moved up to an AR210 from an SX190. First, the size difference is huge. I never would have thought that a couple of feet would make as much difference as it does. The AR does seem to be a bit quieter than my 190, with a lower pitch. I do know that passengers can carry on a conversation while underway. As for the engines, I feel as if the boat has as much, if not a bit more, torque than the 190, but does not have quite the same top speed. For me, I am fine with that. It does do a much better job cruising at lower speeds (20-30mph) than the 190. Below 30mph the 190 always felt like the engine was whining and struggling to keep up.

I hope this helps.

I have the sx210 version with out the tower, the twin tr1 engines feel like that have alot of low end torque and get up on plain quickly. I had 4 adults and four teenagers onboard, 3/4 tank of fuel, coolers and was able to run 43-44 mph at wot. The only reason I know this is because I was trying to outrun a hail storm which caught us of guard. My son had his gps speedometer running on his phone. I can say pea size hail hurts at 44mph. Plenty fast enough for what I need.

I have a 2017 ar210 and I'm very impressed and please with the performance of the motors. My top speed is around 43 mph. Does anyone else have an issue with their motors not being at the same rpm at WOT? Port is 7900 and starboard is 7400. I'm at 900 feet elevation. I already adjusted all slack from the throttle cables so rhey are evenly matched.

I have the same problem as you do, I was thinking/wondering if the impellers are a different pitch. My port side engine also falls back and looses rpms and the starboard engine stays at a constant rpm. I'm at 480 feet elevation.

Sounds like ours are opposite. What are your RPMs at WOT?

Port side 7900 and starboard side 7400, I looked today to make shire I was hitting all the throttle stops and it was. As for the fall back in rpm, I half ass fixed it with the flat head screw under the rectangle cover at the controls. It only falls back about 300 rpm now it used to drop a couple of thousand.

That is because Yamaha stopped providing differentially pitched impellers in the new twins, unfortunately. Port used to be pitched more aggressively, not anymore.

If it really drives you crazy, there are two potential solutions - option 1. adjust the pitch yourself (not difficult, trailing edge only - increasing the angle by about 1mm - port impeller). Option 2. - get the Ridesteady cruise control which synchs the engines electronically (wonderful mod - by Hydrophase).

I have tried idling one engine and hammering the other, I still get the same rpm difference. If they are the same pitch you would think it would hit 7900 but it still hits 7400.

Ok my mistake, my port side is the higher RPM side as well. What do you mean by the RPMs fall back?
