I don't have pics so I know that doesn't help... but my question is where should we be when surfing right at the curl? We got a great wave 2.5' at least... going between 10.8-11.2 none of us can find the sweet spot and go ropeless... any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

Finding the right position for your feet on the board is key. Heavier riders need to keep their weight farther forward on the board. This makes carving and tricks harder but at least you can go ropeless.

The sweet spot speed for my best wave is 10.4 mph. As @jetboater4life mentioned, foot placement is key. For the longest time I had my rear foot too far back on the board which induced too much braking and consequently never allowed me to stay in the pocket. There is also the factor of creating the proper wave that has enough push to actually have a pocket. With regard to the board - Try to center yourself on the board a little more and ensure that your board has enough buoyancy to accommodate your weight. Your front foot shouldn't be too far forward and can probably remain the same as you have been. Move your rear foot an inch forward at a time until you are able to accelerate and break by just shifting your weight forward and back. At that point you will know your feet are right.

We surf the LF Happy Pill 5'2 and the CWB Katana 4'10 each work awesome with riders in the 200lb range. Hit me up if you have more questions.

It all depends on the board and rider's weight. If you can't ever find it then you need more push (bigger/different shape wave), different board, or both. This will be radically different for someone that weighs 125 lbs vs. 175 vs. 200 lbs.

All us surfing weigh between 220-260 so bigger guys... we are using a hyper lite broadcast 5'4 board. Everyone pops right up now. the wave looks great nice curl to it... we can find a little push to not be holding onto the rope real tight but never really get any slack... today I'll try to snap some pics yesterday was all go pro to get the falls recorded

Thanks for all your input!

Post pics when you can. . . .that will help us better assist you. Until then. . . Its all feel and different for each person. Hell, it can be different on the same day a few runs later when weight has shifted and fuel is down.

Vid of my oldest. This wave will push her all day. I need 800 more lbs of ballast and people weighing 80 lbs more. Youtube took out sound because of copyrighted music so I used generic music.

Here is a pic of our wave from last weekend... heading out again this weekend... any suggestions to help go ropeless? Set up was 1180# bag under port seat 400# bag under starboard seat. I have 750# in the center locker we didn't use... if I understand it right that would make the wave smaller giving it less push but further from the boat. Am I understanding that right? We prob had another 1000 pounds on the boat in people all on surf side except driver. Thanks for your input guys!

Didn't have the wakewedge on either since we were wakeboarding before surfing, but again that will clean up the wave not give any push right?

@nate kennedy - Wake Wedge is key and will clean up the jet wash.... but needs to be paired with sufficient ballast. I have about 3k of ballast with my wake and its potentially the best its gonna get.
Take a look at my video I posted and notice how clean the wave is....thanks @jcyamaharider ! lol... But really. I think if you clean up the wave it could potentially allow you to go rope-less. Remember the right sure board is key as well... you will need a board that provides enough buoyancy which will make it easier to go rope-less. Again, check out other my posts in the this forum. It is my life goal (well maybe not life) to achieve the best jet boat wake. Check out my board recommendations as well. I will be testing the Ronix power tail this weekend.

for reference -

Yeah, I REALLY don't want to tackle the ballast automation install. . . . . right up until I have to spend 40 minutes setting up for surfing. I have to automate it this off season. We like to surf too much.

I actually tapped into the existing thru hull ballast plumbing with a Y connector and added an additional ballast pump for all my additional bags. Just having that has cut my setup time considerably. I have it installed my rear storage compartment and just pull the hose out when needed. I also have a thru bulkhead piece with a quick connect I am looking to install to clean it up... I just have to figure out where to put it without it getting in the way.

Sadly, no factory pumps to plumb off of for my 240. Gotta start from scratch.

Yep. And don't kid yourself, it is a HUGE undertaking. But - so worth it at the end.

The procrastinator in me just thanked you for that comment. . . . . The surfer hates your guts now though.
