Hello all! I currently have a 2008 Sugar Sand Calais with a 250 Optimax Merc and have a few issues. I took my boat to a professional recently and had the battery replaced, cleaned the fuel system, and changed the oil. My boat was sitting for 2 years and 2 days ago was the first time we took it out. We filled it full, 57 gallons and ran to about 3/4 tank and the boat died, sounded like no gas. We got towed and filled up with gas again and it would only allow 10 gallons because obviously that is all we used, we ran again and bam at 3/4 tank the boat died. I have no clue what is going on. We even fixed the fuel delivery. We thought maybe the fuel pick up broke off so had my boat mechanic friend fixed that problem but that did not work. Any thoughts? I know we are not running out of gas and also when we have it on there is a constant beep. That just started after 2 and half days of driving the boat.

Thanks all!

Check your filter/water separator, the thing that looks like a oil filter with a wire on the bottom. it's on the port side of the block on my 240 likely the same on yours. It's tied to the Merc engine guardian system and will give a constant beep, let it go and it will shut the engine down. Will also give a constant beep for severe overheat[ a series of four beeps intermittently as it starts to overheat] and the same four beeps every minute for low oil in the reserve tank, the small one on the side of the engine. It will sound constantly when out and then limit power and shut down. Likely some more that I'm forgetting and your Opti may have some more but the system seems to stay pretty much the same, even on my 2017 fourstroke outboard . Oh and welcome aboard.

I'm new to this, but I have a 2006 23' Sugar Sand Oasis and the only time I heard a constant beep is when the oil is low in the DFI tank. Maybe because it sat for so long that eye or sensor went bad and the boat is thinking there isn't any oil in the DFI tank. Also there is a lower gear box unit. I have the oil changed in that every year. Maybe the oil is low there as well. . If it was something else let me know so I can look out for that too!

All good things to check also check for trash in your fuel tank or water in it, I had some similar issues once, the fuel tank had leaves in it and as I drove the tank pickup would get clogged and starve the engine for fuel when it sat for a while the trash would eventually move from the fuel pickup and repeat the situation. Another boat had water in the fuel tank sucked in from the vent on the side of the boat, The water separator was constantly filling with water until I redesigned the vent to prevent it.

Welcome Zack. Out of oil, overheating, and water in the filter\water separator will all trigger the alarm . The oil reserve works with a magnetic float, they can stick or go bad. The water separator will trip when water gets to a certain level, that would be my first guess since the boat has been sitting. Oil in pump will not give an alarm.
