Hey Guys - it's time for some of us to winterizer our AR195's. Anyone planning on doing it themselves? If you are how are you going about it????

Following because I am curious about the supercharger and how that affects things when fogging

Hey Kyle - I guess no one has any idea's about fogging the supercharger so i just removed my spark plugs and fogged the cylinders. I also started the motor a few times (once every 2 hours without the hose) to blow any water out of the motor. I did this before i fogged the cylinders. I also added Marine Sta-bil 360 on my last outting into the gas tank. My boat is stored in my heated garage so i'm not to worried about anything freezing on me. Good Luck to you.

I cleared the water out, changed the oil, took out the plugs, sprayed Yamaha brand fogging oil in each cylinder, put the plugs back in, pulled the safety switch and hit the starter a couple times, added stabil, and put her to bed for the winter. Hopefully that's good enough

Yup sounds like we did the same thing. I forgot to mention that i did remove the safety switch and turned over the motor a few times while fogging with Yamaha fogging oil.

I have been looking into getting a couple wake ballast bags for wakeboarding. I thinking about a large bag in the ski locker and two small bags under the rear seats. Has anyone with an A195 or 192 played around with ballast bags?

I haven't done any testing at wakeboarding speeds since I don't wakeboard. Too afraid to blow my knees out lol. What speeds do you typically pull a wakeboarder? I'm guessing low 20's? If I take my boat back out before storing it for the winter I could do some testing. As far as what could fit I think a 750 fat sac could fit but you would want to relocate the battery to the helm and probably relocate the fuel line and canister to make sure you don't snag your bag. A 350 or 400 lb bag would fit without issue or changes (I think). I would also line the storage opening with vinyl edging material as they could cut a bag since they aren't really smooth finished edges. My boat isn't plumbed for that since I just or them over the seat, swim platform or on the floor when I did the wake surf testing.

This is my wake at around 1300 lbs at 10.5 MPH. Ballast distribution was 60/40 (favored surf side) across the back seat and bench. The boat has no issues pulling that weight and more. I'd like to test again at 2,000 lbs. These single engine boats make a clean wake as you add more ballast but I don't have any experience with wake speeds.

Thank you for the information. I generally tow between 18-22 which is somewhat hard to maintain. I currently have a couple 100 lbs on each side using the lead bags. I’m thinking about a 750 lbs bag in the ski locker and 350 lbs on each side.

With 1300 lbs how much lower does your boat sit in the water?

My rub rail is just at the water surface. If I add a 750-900 lb bag to the swim platform I could likely get it ankle deep on the surf side which is what you'd want to get a good surf wave. Gotta bury that rear end :winkingthumbsup"

Here is my old 2012 SX190 running w/1,800lbs of ballast:

1800 lbs ballast made the boat sit pretty low, the rub rail was close to the water level at the stern.

I had a 550 and a 350lbs bags on the swim platform, another 550 sitting in the back on the fuel hatch, and a 350 on top on the ski locker. The pictures are not very good as my hands were frozen (I was testing in December I think), but will just give you some general idea.

This was a N/A 190 but had a few mods in that boat and it pulled like a mule, topping 35mph with all that load, just FYI.

@swatski for the bags inside the cockpit, did you ever do any surf wake testing with the bags on the rear seats and on top of the fuel tank hatch (placed sideways)?

I did a lot of testing, nothing worked "good enough" from what I remember - to get excited about getting my phat a$$ ropeless behind it.

With that particular setup, here is the wave at ~10mph:

And then at wakeboarding speed ~20mph:

Let me see if I can find some video footage, I remember the wake at 20mph was not bad at all.

This was all with no additional devices, flaps etc.

Here is a clip - running at ~20mph in first 5-10sec of the clip, then speeding up to 35+.

The wake at ~20mph was not bad for wakeboarding at all!

Thanks for the refresher pics. What depth is your lake or where you tried the surf wave? My results seem to be a little different than yours and wondering if water is playing a role but of course my ballast placement was different too. Having the weight in the center of the cockpit I can see being good for wakeboarding since you're on plane but want to push as much of the hull in the water.

Ultimatey what I've found in all this is I'll likely end up in a dedicated surf boat in a few years. Until then I will play with ballast placement. I seem to get ok results so far but I think it will take close to 2000 lbs for my big ass to have any luck with a ropeless wave on my 192. I still have Bill's extra bags to get me to that number and a little beyond so if I hit the lake one more time this year I'll try and test again. Just sucks having to dump water, move bags, fill, test, repeat lol.

That particular area was pretty shallow, I think, in the 10-15' category, and less towards the edges. But I do think the distribution is more relevant here.
True, it is a lot of work to make these boats throw a decent wake, no doubt, but... there may be a solution. (Other than buying a dedicated wake boat that is)

I'm still blown away at how much work you guys put into your surf wakes. All that ballast and setup time/effort. I've got some friends with a super nice Centurion wake boat. Tons of ballast and tabs, and foils, and other doo-dads to get the wake just the right shape and size. I've surfed behind it a few times, but never really got the draw to it. It's neat, and fun, don't get me wrong, but good grief it seems like a lot of work to get setup and going.

I applaud the efforts though. You guys are seriously getting this down to a science!

I’m looking at taking advantage of the boat show sale and getting a ballast bag for the ski locker. Does anyone know the dimensions of the ski locker on the 19 footers? Mine is currently in storage for the winter.

So im having some serious withdrawals now that we're getting into February (3 more months.. 3 more months.. 3 more months..) so I contacted the marina where I purchased my 195 and that is storing it this winter and got a quote on adding 4 Blue LED's to the interior. They quoted me $450 to do the 4 lights with wiring and connecting the lights to the stock accessory light switch. What do you guys think, I was thinking about doing it myself but the convenience of them doing it over the next few months and having it ready in May when I pick up the boat. I think I am going to have them go ahead and do it but wanted feedback from some of you that may have done this before. Thanks in advance for any information!
