I just bought my Benny. If you still have it in a few months...

(I'll realize still that I'll never own an I/O - sorry!)

One plus of changing boats often is it makes remembering the different memories easier! No insinuations Andy...just sayin’.

What are you saying Randy, just cause I have grey hair is my memory getting weak? By they way my memory is getting weak, just ask my wife (whatever her name is).

Congrats on the new boat! Looks amazing for its age. How about Why Naut? Man, your R5 is at the top of my list and I would be seriously considering it if we had not just purchased a new house. Ugh!

Great looking boat. Can't believe its that old. What about a compromise on the name with just a very tiny "k". GUESS kNOT!

Great boat @Andy S !! I love the outboards. To me, outboards are definitely the most robust and versatile drive system available.
Good for you. How much weight are you towing with it on the trailer?

I've tried all combination with the wife but she is hard headed about going with "Guess Not".

Thanks! I agree about the outboard and another plus is they don't draw near as much water as an I/O. The Triton is about 6000lbs dry and with 200 gallons of fuel capacity when full that is another 1400lbs.

@Andy S - great boat and you have me thinking about getting a boat with a cabin like that. The outboards are an excellent choice and you should slap some yamaha stickers over those Merc labels. Keep us posted on how you like the boat!

I'm curious but what makes an outboard better versus a stern drive in regards to hitting things in the water? Why was your R5 more likely than other boats you've had?

My next boat will likely be a v-drive so hitting things with the prop, fins or the rudder would be a concern for me in the future since I can't raise the prop out of the water but it's not often we have trash or logs in our water unless there's been a storm or lots of rain.

With the outdrive fully down my R5 draws almost 36'' of water while the 27' Triton with outboards down only draws 21". The 15" difference will make a hitting things less likely, and 15" elsewhere makes a difference but that is for another thread ;);). Also, if a boat does get stuck, the outdrive barely raises above the boat of the boat, whereas outboards get completely out of the water.

Thanks for the info. We always had outboard growing up so I've had no experience with stern drives. If I do decide to go to vdrive on my next boat one thing I will miss greatly is the ease of mind with a jet in shallow or murky water but even then you can hit or suck up stuff, just likely not as costly lol. I sometimes still have nightmares when I helped a guy who ran over a log in his Super Air Nautique at wake boarding speeds https://jetboaters.net/threads/so-i-saw-a-fellow-boater-in-distress-today.13004/#post-226398
