Yup, you read the title correctly. I wanted to make the title I'm a dumb a$$. Anyways, at the beginning of the season I pulled into the gas station to fill the boat up, same gas station I've used for the past 5 years (how long I've owned the boat). This particular station has a different canopy for non-ethanol, completely separate from the other "normal" pumps on the other side of the parking lot. As I pulled in and parked at the pump some Karen comes flying in behind me yelling out her window how I have a directional out and she almost ran into the back of me, not trying to make excuses.. but I was distracted/flustered with that, she eventually pulls away and I just grab the handle and and start filling the boat. I launch the boat and drive it over to the dock it stays at all year. I show up a week later to take it out, I go to start the boat but it doesn't want to fire up. This thing has been a beast for me, normally starts on the first crank every time. It eventually starts after a few more cranks and we buzz around the lake a little bit, but I can tell something is up. I bring it back to the dock and I'm troubleshooting things, I'm no pro; but I know a little bit. It's cranking over and the plugs have a good spark so I'm thinking maybe its some kind of fuel delivery problem, I disconnect the fuel line that sends gas from the tank and put it into a clear bottle, just to see if its spitting out gas and the fuel pumps are working, when I do that the gas is RED... google tells me that sometimes non-ethanol can be red but I don't trust that. I take a drive over to the gas station and come to find out in the midst of all the non-ethanol pumps there's 1 f***ing kerosene pump and of course that's the one I accidently used.

*side note, the boat had about half a tank of non-ethanol still in it from the previous season when I put the kerosene in*

Obviously the first thing I need to do is pump out that gas tank.. then I was thinking replace fuel filters, injectors, spark plugs, do a compression test.

I'm turning to you guys to let me know how screwed I might be.
Any ideas/advice on what I should do/how to proceed??

Nope, easy fix just pump out the tank and fill with gasoline. It may take some cranking but it will fire up and run rough for a bit. Then change the plugs and you will be good to go. After new plugs give it a good run, it will be fine. You just lubricated the fuel components real good. Only thing to look for and might want to do is see if oil level is high and smells like fuel. If so change oil and filters

Yeah good tip on the oil & filters, ill prolly change them anyways just for good measure. Thanks for the advice, def put me at ease a little bit.

Seen this happen more than you think with Diesel and they all turn out fine. It may smoke a little like a 2stroke but it will clear up

I wonder if an additive like sea foam marine or something similar would help clean the injectors out quicker. Just a thought.

Wont make a difference, once the gas runs through them they will be clean and it wont take long.
If you take a gallon jug that had diesel or kerosene in it and add a splash of gas shake around and dump out it will be clean and free of anything but gas 100%

What’s your opinion on Seafoam Marine on the regular? I have to use premium in my FSH and I don’t think there is non-ethenol premium around me so I’ve been adding it to compensate for the ethanol and avoid water build up.

Any additive to combat ethanol and water issues is a good thing. Pump 10% ethanol gas has a very short shelf life 3 months and it starts to degrade so anything to stop that is worth the investment

When I didn’t have non ethanol available to me I always used Star Tron.

Get your fuel at a station that sells a lot of fuel, that is the best way to ensure that you’re getting the driest gas you can get.

What town are you out of ?

StarTron fuel Additive - clicky link to buy

Cheapest price I can find. You can find it in the small bottles all over the place around you, but it'll be gawdawful expensive. By the gallon is perfect. I bought the pump for the jug, and I'll probably skip that after this season when my bottle is finally used up. That gallon is good to treat 41 full and COMPLETE fill-ups. You're likely to have that gallon for 2+ years or more, so buy once, cry once.

I’m in Lubbock TX. I only know of one station with non-ethanol but i think they only have it in 87 octane. I’ll swing by there today and look.

Where I fuel at typically sells a lot of fuel so I got the 91octane there last time. I don’t use a ton of fuel cause I’m typically using the trolling motor 75-80% of the time I’m on the water. Decent sized freshwater lakes here but realistically i could troll only and just use the motor to launch and load.

I didnt know Seafoam came in gallons. I’ll look for that. I’d rather spend the money than regret it later.

StarTron for my boat and snowmower, SeaFoam for all my 2-smoke OPE along with ethanol-free gas

I prefer StarTron for the boat due to being able to, and running, E-10 through it, if necessary, which is your standard operating procedure due to lack of ethanol-free. It's slightly more expensive than SeaFoam, but seems to work better in my snowmower, which will be used in wet conditions along with E-10 more often.
