Just Installing a Subwoofer

my 2013 has the polk speakers in it already and I really dont want a system that requires a 2nd battery to run for the day. Can I just ad a sub and if so what will I need to get this done. Not really interested on a portable sub. Tell me what you stereo Gurus have done

Last year I decided to upgrade the factory speakers in my SX230 and add speakers to the swim deck.

In the first stage I replaced the four factory speakers with Infinity Reference 6912m 6 x 9s

.

They looked better and sound way better than the factory speakers.

Originally I had planned to add a subwoofer to complement the new speakers. But after listening to the four 6x9s I decided that they had enough base. With a frequency response down to 36hz and an efficiency of 96dB these 6x9s are capable of producing lower frequencies than most speakers and do so more efficiently (more volume per watt). A 6x9 has 84% of the surface area of an 8" round speakers. With four of them all producing base they have more cone area than three 8s, two 10s or one 12.

I believe that simply replacing your stock speakers with these or another larger than 6.5" marine speaker with similar specs may satisfy your desire for more base without needing to add an amp or use more amperage to listen to your music. The Wet Sounds Wet Sounds XS-808 is another excellent option although at a much higher price.

Keep the polks, throw in a http://www.polkaudio.com/products/pad5000_5, and grab a 10" JL or Wetsounds IB subwoofer. I have two batteries but have never run the house one down enough to worry about it.

Get a 5 channel amp...... (they range from $200 to whatever you want to spend). Add a good IB subwoofer like JL or Wetsounds and you will be thrilled.

Bob,
Your Polk's will sound awesome once you throw amp behind them. Try that 1st before mounting a sub.
As for a sub - WetSounds 10"IB.

I added this sub to my Ar192. I have the polk's too and they are pretty sweet. That's 10" Fusion sub. I'll be installing the amp in about a week. I'm going to run the polk's, the sub, and my 2 towers off it (5 channel amp).

Well I did say that but Im not gonna go all ape shit and do a set up that requires its own battery. I firmly believe this is the limit of my stereo upgrade.

Bob, adding 600W will tax a single battery considerably...if you haven't added a second. You might want to consider this for long days at anchor with the tunes playing. It is doable with the single battery, but your really going to want to consider length of time with the music playing. Your limits are going to be around 2.5 hours if you really have it cranking, on a single battery.

That must be photoshopped, how in the hell do they get all the speaker wires to those things. Definitely not inside the tower.

I dont know much about this stuff but this is what it said on the Wetsounds site,
RMS Power @ 4 ohm Stereo110 x 6

Not sure how many watts that is.

Bob, I want to apologize first of all...I got the amps wrong...YOU HAVE A 900WATT Amp! So you really do need another battery. You will have less than 1.5hours on the stock battery when the boat is shut down. Now that is at a high volume setting, and if your taking advantage of the full capability of the amp. But the bottom line is this...(been waiting a long time to repeat this famouns jaws movie line, substitute battery for boat) YOUR GOING TO NEED A BIGGER BOAT (BATTERY) LOL. That is a big F'ing AMP!

I thought you had additional batteries for your trolling motor anyway? If not you will need a second. So build it right the first time

I may have an extra syn micro amp so you can add two cockpit speakers as well. HT6 for your six cockpit speakers and the syn micro for your sub. Now that's an upgrade!

1.5 hours....NO shit???? Im thinking about canceling this whole thing. I dont want to have extra batteries JUST for stereo. Yes I have a 24V set up for my trolling motor so if I kill my starting battery I can always use one of those to jump with. Im calling Andy!! And Peter, Octavio, stop laughing at me
