I finally got around to installing my Lowrance HDS-9 Carbon. For me, it basically came down to 2 possible locations to mount the transducer. On the inboard or outboard side of either ride plate (ok that's 4 locations). Others have done this a little differently before and I decided to use some materials I had on hand and attach it mechanically (bolt on). I was really wanting the sidescan to function properly and after making some measurements the outboard side of the ride plate offers the least amount of interference from the keel. I cut some aluminum pieces, fixtured them at the correct angle, TIG welded them up and it is rock solid! Took the boat out this past weekend and the sidescan performance is good to go. It also maintained depth readings at high speed. Overall, I am really happy with how it turned out. Starting to feel a little sorry for what the fish have in store for them. :)

Looks good! Much prefer your method of aluminum versus how I mounted mine with a wood block, hah.

Since you mounted the ducer facing forward rather than aft (as designed)...just note on your MFD left is actually right and right is actually left...

Yep, that's how it was. I actually drove past a pole in the water and saw it displayed on the wrong side of the boat. Then, I went into the setup menu and selected "Swap Left/Right" and that fixed it. Works like a champ now!

Did you use 2 transducers or only using sidescan to 1 side?

One Totalscan transducer performing sonar, down and side scan out both sides of the boat. Worked just fine. Keel wasn't and issue. BTW, after speaking with Lowrance, turns out you cannot use 2 side scan transducers with only one head unit. I think you can with Hummingbird units but I'm not positive.

With humminbrid you can use 2 transducers and split the signal, that's that main reason I stuck with humminbird. I tried in a few locations and none of them gave me a clear view of both sides with sidescan. Biggest problem is with my new unit the 2nd transducer is $300 and $60 for the splitter cable.

Yeah the transducers are not cheap! Now I remember reading your post before about having 2 transducers (one on each side). That is a nice feature of the Humminbird's. So far, from my testing, I'm pretty convinced that the one transducer is working well on both sides of the boat. Now... it's time to add the Motorguide and get it networked with the Lowrance!

Navico/Simrad/Lowrance/B&G (all owned by the same parent company Navico) does support dual transducers for side/structure scan. The issue is that your Lowrance MFD does not support it; however, other units (lowrance/simrad/b&g) do support it.
Whoa...pricey too! Glad mine is working well as is.

This is interesting because I was reaching out to Navico to see if they had some type of switch or 2 into 1 that would allow me to get a signal from a forward scan transducer and my totalscan transducer into my GO7... something like an 2 channel switch. No luck...:(

Evo2 or Evo3 NSS is required for 2 sonar inputs.

GO models are priced less “budget” models for a reason.

Can’t provide all function and features for less price.

Have you ever heard of a transducer A/B switch? Are they called something else? I can't imagine I'm the first person trying to connect 2. Even if its manual switch, I'm okay with that. Looking for any direction.

@swifty_210FSH

Thank's for the write up. I'm following in your steps but have on question. What did you use to reseal the bolts going thru the ride play into the hull? Do you know what that black sealant material is?
