Hey folks,

I'm new to this forum, but have been in and around the jet boat community for years. This summer I was faced with a dilemma. Should I buy a brand new 2018 242 X E-Series, or invest some time/money into retro-fitting my 2011 model.

After a lot of research, and some lengthy discussions with Will at JBP, I've decided to embark on the retro-fit journey this summer. In particular, I'm planning to do the following:

- Interior upholstery replacement (working with a local Marine upholstery shop)

- Buff hull and replace OEM graphics. (I discovered this week that Yamaha has discontinued several of the original vinyl graphics for the 2011, so I am designing my own and will be sourcing them from a local signage company. Once I get the design finished I'll post pics, in case anyone wants to use them.

- Replacing carpet with SeaDeck

- Installing some type of surf system (WakeWedge, etc.)

So, now to the core reason for my message. For those of you who have gone through these tasks before I would greatly appreciate any guidance you may have. It's always to learn from other folks experiences.

As I go through the process I plan to share success/failures, and post pictures and videos of the process.

I would welcome any guidance or input from the community!

Thanks...

mike

I just did most of everything you are about to do this past winter to my 2010 242 LS. I replaced all HydroTurf with Seadek, Buffed out the Hull and sides of the boat back to a new shine, replaced all decals and emblems on the boat, except the discontinued graphics on the side... I left it Black. I have some upholstery work to do around the back of the boat, but I'm gonna wait till next winter to do that. All this work you are talking about is very doable, and depending on how much time you have to devote to it, really wont take all that long. Mine turned out great and I'm sure yours will too! Just takes some elbow grease!

Thanks for the message. It goes in today to get the hull buffed and the decals removed. Since I wasn’t able to replace all of the stickers I designed ones that almost exactly match the originals. I plan to get those printed in the next week and see how they look. If it looks good I’ll share the design in case others want to use it.

Oh man, she looks beautiful after the change. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get the sea deck? I need to do exactly that. Also, I love the front details! That is awesome.

The Seadek came from the group buy from Will @JetBoatPilot . Its a mother to get the old hydroturf off the boat. The swim deck is the hardest to get up, other pieces around the boat aren't so bad to get up.

I've done this work, and much, much more to my 2010! Except for the wake wedge. We don't do much, other then tubing occasionally. The old graphics come off easily with a heat gun. The old turf can be a nightmare to remove, but is doable. Many threads about it. I left my hull black for now, but may add "242 Limited S" on the lower, read sides. I had planned to do large graphics, but tried installing myself and it was a nightmare due to the shape of the hull, and I gave up. My upholstery still looks half decent, but I have some mold stains I cant get rid of yet. I'm sure one day, I will replace it all with higher quality material. I'd love to see the graphics and upholstery work you have done. Good Luck
