@ScarabMike I'm so thankful I read your stuff. I had this problem yesterday. I had family come from out of town (1hour away) to go to crab island. While prepping the boat I decided I would test it before we head out. No crank. I didn't have a spare either. I switched the two and to my surprise, it cranked. I think it vibrated out a little. If I wouldn't have read this, I would have disappointed a lot of people. Let us know the outcome of the carbon seal. I'm getting extremely hot water, almost boiling, in the ski locker but not a lot. I'm thinking I'm not far from a repair. Knock on fiberglass lol.

I had a same problem a while back and did the same thing to get it to crank, but I was in the middle of the river. when I got home I pulled them out and found corrosion on them. I also had a problem with my bilge pump, and to find corrosion on the fuse also. So I remove all relays and fuses and put DIELECTRIC TUNE-UP GREASE on all contacts to prevent contact loss and corrosion.

Isn't it nice to know you don't have to repair anything, just a $4 fuse?

So what is the reason that the subject relay keeps failing?
The people at BRP say that it is due to letting the battery drain down too much, then cranking the engine. I guess there is something internally that causes a fuse like break. Ill try and get a better answer for you all.

I'm having a similar problem with my 2012 SeaDoo Challenger 180 SE.

Tried replacing the starter solenoid and it did not fix it.

Just ordered the same OMRON relay but they have been discontinued by the manufacturer. Does anyone know of an alternate part number that can be used just in case I need another one at a later date?

Update: I have fixed my starting issue. Finally figured out that I'm a idiot. When I changed my battery I actually left off one of the two negative battery cables. In my defense, It was getting dark outside and the battery is located deep inside the hull where sunlight cannot get in while your body is in the access hole. I missed seeing the cable lying behind the battery while balancing myself in the hole and working one handed while holding the flashlight with the other.

As a result of my troubleshooting I have a spare starter solenoid and 2 spare relays.

The relays that I bought came from an Indian Motorcycles parts house. There out there, just got to research like crazy to find them.

I know this is an old thread.... I went out last weekend and my starboard engine isn't cranking at all. Was hoping to find that these relays were the issue as I bought some on the above advise. I swapped them (as well swapping from the port engine to make sure I didn't have duds) and still no joy.

What is interesting is that when the keys are on, the hours meter is blank for the starboard engine. Perhaps that will give a clue to someone here???

We used the boat the weekend prior, washed it, flushed the engine and didn't have any problems. Of note, the "set" button on the side panel for the cruise control quit working on the last trip out... seems like the spring has failed. Haven't had a chance to get into that, but didn't think that that would be connected??

Any ideas? ... unfortunately (or fortunately) we've moved out to Hawaii and lack anywhere to take it in to service and I'm on my own on this one....

Thanks!

You may have either a loose or wet connection. Look behind the helm through the storage area. Unclip the vinyl cover and make sure all connectors are good. Then check the engine's connectors for water intrusion.

Hours meter blank STBD engine, that's happening when the Cluster is not seeing the engine ECM?
None of the engine cranking? Is the controller in Neutral? Is safety lanyard connected? No blown fuse in Rotax fuse box or popped breaker in the back breaker panel?
Push button issue, either the internal mechanism (spring) failed as you stated, or the spade connector is disconnected on the back side.

Port engine cranks fine as well as shows hour meter. Controller is in neutral and safety lanyard is connected. I did check all fuses and breakers, and all seem ok.

Ive been trying to get this problem worked out in my head. I think you may have a loose connection behind the breaker panel. There is a box that covers the connections. Check the ground connection first, then make sure the other bolts holding the power cables are tight as well.

Im with @JetTech72 with a faulty breaker, or something isolated to that junction point.
