Looking at a 2019 AR210 and want to know if 4-5 adults, two small children and towing at the same is too much. Can the TR1 engines handle this kind of load or should I be looking at a 212 limited s?

We have a 15 sx210 and have had 4 adults and 4 teens in our boat with no issues. We will wakeboard and tube as well. Fully loaded we get 38 mph gps (ridesteady). I dont think you would be disappointed in either. BUT when in doubt go bigger.

I have a 2014 AR210. I have had six people in the boat and pulling two on a tube. There was no problems with power. It’s a great boat.

I've had that many people in my AR195 and had ZERO issues. Not towing we got to over 50 mph.

With 7 people, I'd look at the 240.

I have a 2019 AR210, and we just had 4 adults, two 8 year old kids, and a 4 year old + gear. Towed a big mable with no issues. No issues cruising around. Could easily get to 35, but I didn't push it to see what it topped out at. I also had the bimini deployed the whole time.

The only problem with towing (not the engines) is the stern tow point is low and the rope drags in the water, and my wife won't let me attach to the tower because she saw the warning sticker. I didn't get that one removed in time after reading a bunch of testimonials of people doing with no issues. If you want to whip your riders, you have to accelerate into the turn and dial it back at the right time. My throttles are sensitive so I am still getting a feel for them, but I often dial it back too much.

We were on the fence between a 210 and 240. I skipped the 212 lineup because at that price point I might as well just go into the 240s. I'm happy with my choice. I know the saying is nobody wishes they had a smaller boat, but I don't regret it. I definitely like the smaller payment. The AR240 would have really pushed our budget, and with the 210 I have room for upgrades. We are a family of 5 with 3 kids under 9 years old, so they boat is plenty big for them to grow on.

Don't tow tubes from the tower. It's also in the manual, and pretty much standard operating procedure for any boat with a tower, but an often broken rule.

There is a guy on the lake I keep mine with a older 23' who tows only from the tower and he flies, big tube as well. It is either going to continue to be fine or there is going to be a 'bad day' one day....only time will tell.

Different year models but same engines. We run a 2011 ar210 and a 2012 212x.
Ar is the fuel efficient cruiser, it can/does pull tubes and wake boards with a full crew on board, it just doesnt launch as hard and tops out around 35ish. The 212x has a nuch harder launch and top speed but literally drinks twice the fuel- full disclosure we only use this for watet sports so to be expected.
Either way you are looking at a jet drive, these across the board launch harder/ more launch torque than any prop driven boat. If speed and power are your goal get a model with the HO engines. If you want lower cost and better efficiency the 210 is great. We spend more time on that one for what it's worth.

If you are talking a new 210 I don't think the new TR1 engines offer much fuel efficiency over the 1.8 liters. In fact if you believe the boattest.com numbers they are probably worse.

NOPE not the same engines. The Ar210 has the 110 horsepower MR1 motors and the 212X has the 160 horsepower 1.8 liter motors.

Funny we initially had a bit of sticker shock too when we looked at the 210 vs 212, but once we looked closer at the features, the 212 has the extras we want in a new jet boat. Like stronger engines and pumps, larger Connext with mapping (we boat in sketchy water sometimes), better seating layout with dual buckets (this is a must for the wife), entertainment center (wife loves this feature too), swim platform speakers, etc. We feel these extras justifies the price difference and is on our short list for a new boat.
YMMV

Does anyone know what the kW rating says on the stamp on the top of the 1.8 liter engines? 160 HP is about 119 kW?

The 212s are absolutely nicer boats, but I don't put a lot of value in electronics. Not that I don't like them, but those can be upgraded at anytime relatively easily aftermarket. I don't need mapping but if I did I would just do something on my phone, and we prefer the bench seat layout since we have young kids. The engines are the main thing that can't be dismissed, but to me the extra HP wasn't worth the price increase for a 21' boat, so that's why we started looking at the AR240 if we were going spend more.

I think he knows, it was just worded awkward.

Albeit no official HP numbers exist from Yamaha, going by the EPA stickers
1.8 n/a are 180 HP
MR-1HOs are 160, non-HO 140, and some older ones and some skis have the below 1,000cc 110hp.

I’m not sure about TR-1s, also haven’t been used in boats very long and there have been issues with cooling already.

The old 210s can haul butt, I have a guy on my river who shows up with extended family (16? strong, I don’t know, I lost count, lol) every 4th of July. He loves his boat.

That's where we started while shopping around in the 20-21' size, but the 212 has more appeal for us personally (ok I'm gonna say it, happy wife, happy life) with the dual buckets, ent center, and tower. I might have talked her into the SX210 if it came with a tower, but no tower or buckets is a no go for us (hmm, er, her).
:D
The extra power from the 1.8L engines is my bonus. LOL
