It is the eve of 4th of July and still, my boat has not left the driveway.......so sad.

Snow?

Bummer. If you have kids, I would encourage you to try to keep it if you can.

Been having the same thoughts lately. We've been out once this year.

I'm a lifelong boater and I never understood the folks who sold their boats because "they got busy" - but I'm beginning to understand.

With just one in college, it really starts locking down your schedule. In a few years I'll have 3 at the same time. (Hopefully Eldest will be done before #4 starts school.)

We spend two weeks out of an already short summer visiting family.

I've put off a lot of house projects that I should have done a long time ago. These were done to get the boat ready, maintain the boat, use the boat, and put the boat away. All that time could have been spent building a deck, replacing window wells, and other various tasks that need doing.

I'm starting to think a 2-seat roadster in the driveway would be less time-consuming and get used a LOT more - but then I think about NOT boating and I don't like the sound of that either.

I dunno. They say "The answer is always Miata," I'm just not ready to ask the question yet.

Make time! You will be dead forever, if your lawn does not get mowed one week it will not matter.
I have so much crap to do I wish I could follow my own advice.
Memorial Day was last use.
I do think about the boat rental programs and wonder if it would work better.

Two ideas:
-Go out during the week after work!
-Use vacation/personal days

So Sorry,

I've been out once this year...kids are all grown they come home from college in the summer and work. No time to play.

And yet I plan on taking it with me when we move in August.

Year before last I was similarly disappointed with how much I was using the boat. Made a resolution that on each Thursday I would figure out if I was going to go out and would find friends or family who wanted to go as well. Made the boat much more enjoyable, and we wound up using it quite a bit more--all just for having a plan. And, of course, once I had a plan, then I had plans and didn't make other plans over it.

Just something to consider.

Want to hear something sad. I just spent 8 days at lake martin. During that time I only put my boat in twice since everyone but myself got sunburnt the first day there. 5F201A49-B4F2-4E22-82C6-E6C7E049873E.jpegE1810569-E6FE-4D1D-9689-34FFD290DED5.jpeg

Can’t help you with all that but I encourage everyone to think outside the box. My oldest son is in college about an hour from home. Found a lake nearby so his younger brother and I tow the boat out occasionally to offer him and his college buddies “study breaks”. His brother and I get to visit with him and he gets massive reputation points with his friends. It’s quick and easy.

I hear you though. It’s especially tough living in a part of the country where the boating season is 5 months long, at best. Plus I own a lake house so I have two homes that I routinely ignore while I date my boat.

Why not both?? There are days that are convertible days, boat days and sometimes both! I can't recommend a convertible enough as an option (above having a boat). I bought one in March and have had so much fun with it when boating is not an option (which has been a lot up here in MN).

I have a million projects all the time. This is weekend 4 out of 5 that I've been on vacation. Boating on every vacation. Get regular chores done during the week and party hard on the weekends. You can sleep when you die. It's a lot of work to have a lot of fun and maintain a fleet of toys.

Absolutely! We are moving to Kona, HI at the end of the summer.

You could get a smaller boat like the LS2000. Easy to captain alone ?

Why not both?? ....

Well.... 4 kids with one in college has a lot to do with that right now. ;) I can only allow myself one "big" toy at a time at the moment.

I have to admit being a victim of old-school thinking: You work hard to buy something and once you get it, you take care of it until you physically can't anymore. I think the only big thing my parents ever sold was our travel trailer - and that was because the cottage became a time-sink and we stopped going camping.

When I see others sell one toy to buy another, it just doesn't compute in my brain. I realize now that is potentially flawed thinking, but that's just the way my family was. I think there's too much emotional attachment as well as the thought of "sunk costs."

I can hear my Dad's voice in my head "After all that effort and money you want to SELL it????

As I get older, I'm realizing that if you want to sample a variety of things - and stay within your budget - you're going to have to make some decisions. It IS possible to do the sampling, you just have to be willing to part with the stuff you've already tried.

It's the lack of kids! I started with an LS 2000 in 2006, switched to a 2008 SX230 later. Used to go out 20 times a summer during our 3 month window from school. Then the kids go into college, one graduates and has a real job. No more time to boat, lol. The other kid is flying her ass off at Embry Riddle in Florida, and ain't coming home until Christmas. Hell I have a beach house in Ocean City where I keep the boat and haven't been there since April. Bought another home in Fl for the kid to live in (and renters pay down the mortgage) and have spent the summer driving back and forth getting the home furnished. I am half tempted to haul the boat to Fl and keep it there. Then again, I am spoiled by the vast and unused Maryland waterways so can't convince myself to move the boat. The kids grow up, and the boat just doesn't get used anymore. Oh well, off to Vegas Monday for a few days of relaxation, then down to Glendale for some "work" at the IFL Championship Game. Anyone want some tickets for the championship game of a very exciting sport? PM me!
