I just would feel more comfortable when making a sizable investment like this to be dealing with a company that has been in the boat speed control business for over 20 years with upwards of 90,000 existing customers rather than buying from a guy putting stuff together in his garage and using a post office box at a gift shop as a business address. That being said the PerfectPass system still needs to be a good product which is why I am asking for help in making this decision.

I can see that.

But, given the awesome and personal service that @Ridesteady provides even on this dinky web forum vs no direct interaction with Perfect Pass here, and (if you read through the forum posts provided above) quite a number of satisfied customers... and given 0 feedback so far on the new PerfectPass (that I’ve seen apart from reseller info @JetBoatPilot ), I don’t think I would consider the Ride Steady solution out of the running.

That’s just my $.02.

Hopefully, you get the feedback you’re looking for to help you make an informed decision on spending your hard earned money. That’s about all we can hope for. :)

I actually have the new Perfect Pass system but have been afraid to post anything about it here. I figured I would get flamed for it. :) It works great and I have had tremendous customer service directly from Perfect Pass. You can PM me if you have any other specific questions about it. I truly believe RIdesteady makes a great product and, from what I read, has outstanding customer service as well.

I may have been a bit harsh, with only two choices and their web presence it is easy to research these companies. There is nothing like feedback from real users to help with a choice.

I love my Ridesteady system and would recommend it to anyone whose boat is compatible. I've been running it for 3 seasons now and it has been absolutely flawless. Search this forum and I think you'd have a hard time finding even a single negative comment about the product. I am doubtful you'll find the same glowing reviews of PP.

You can say what you will about the length of time that perfect pass has been in business, but Ridesteady has had their plug and play digitally controlled interface on the market longer and it's proven itself. I don't care where it's made... it's quality speaks for itself. In my opinion the Perfect Pass is a bit of a knock off.

Since purchasing there has been a free recall to fix the potential problem of VHF interference with the nodes. It was promptly addressed. There was also a software upgrade offered. It cost a bit, but the full time engine sync was work every cent of it and it was optional.

Customer service is typically one on one direct with the owner Justin (aka @Ridesteady) and his responses are near immediate, extremely kind, personal, and helpful. To their credit JBP has also earned their reputation of having great customer service too.

Lastly, I think the user interface of the Ridesteady is superior. The knob is so easy and accurate to use on the fly.

If I had the chance to choose between the two again I'd choose to give the guy working out of his garage my money over and over.

Bigger isn't always better and it's obvious Perfect Pass took a few notes from Ridesteady on this one...

Nobody would flame you, might as well go write a post about it so people can understand their options. Pretty sure it'd be the first non-vendor review of the new product.

Just for transparency, I have neither system - but that might have been the first dig I've seen at Ridesteady in the couple years I've been floating around here. I'm interested in it, but too spendy for me since we don't surf/board, would just be for cruising.

@Levi Weatherford your fears are valid. Unfortunately there are several aftermarket products on this forum that are closely guarded by vocal watchmen. Anyone with any opinions otherwise will need to be ready to defend their choice with thick skin, talk behind closed doors or just simply keep their mouth shut. Unfortunately for the forum, as a whole, I think many choose to keep their mouth shut and so the forum becomes very one sided regarding aftermarket product options.

Let's look at @Levi Weatherford 's post:
You can PM me if you have any other specific questions about it.
He obviously prefers to talk about his option behind closed doors because he doesn't want to be dragged over the coals for choosing option B over option A. :bag:
I truly believe RIdesteady makes a great product and, from what I read, has outstanding customer service as well.
To appease the vocal watchmen to avoid being dragged over the coals, he obviously feels the need to compliment ridesteady even though he has had no interaction, doesn't own the product, and actually purchased the competitors product. o_O

Is this really the environment you want in this forum? I really enjoy this forum, it is super informative but there are certain things that really upset me and the product bashing is high on that list. I will say that the products the vocal watchmen defend are good products, but I wonder how much of it is actual product superiority vs choice supportive bias = the tendency to retroactively ascribe positive attributes to an option one has selected and/or to demote the forgone options

Having had both, old perfect pass-traditional version with servo operates linkages, and RideSteady I’ll tell that while burning up or corroding the servo motors should no longer be an issue with the new electronic perfect pass system I would want to know if they have improved their screens which in the past have been known to poop with a year or two pretty frequently. Also making adjustments with the knob is hundred times easier for me than pushing arrows up-and-down and clicking the buttons on a side of the screen.
