I am contemplating getting a Yamaha 275 SD Jet Boat for Salt Water use in and around Clearwater Florida.

I am trying to talk myself out of it, convince me a Jet Boat is a mistake in Salt Water

Rather find out now before I buy it.

Thanks

All boats will do best in salt if you can maintain them with proper cleaning and flushing. That goes for jet and non jet boats. As you start to get into a 275 foot, what will be your plan to flush the boat after each use? You will want a plan and in my opinion while jets are not a mistake in salt water, there are benefits to non-jet as you start to focus on boating in coastal waters. The cost of the 275 opens up so many options so if I would you, I would be visiting the area you will boat, sea trial options, and talk to people that boat in those waters

I have been boating up in Tarpon Springs for 3 years with a jet boat, as long as you flush it and wash it down good after you get out youl be fine. You looking at Cycle Springs?

Jet boats in salt water are not a mistake. It's what we do on the gulf with zero regrets.

What draws me to the Yamaha 275SD is the lack of an engine talking up half of the swim platform.

My use will mainly be in the intercostal Island hopping in shallow waters

We will not be out in the gulf fishing

Yes I have actually put a deposit on a 275SD from Cycle Springs

Hey Drift Away

What challenges are there in our area with Jet Boats

Is there a better boat for $125,000

Just the flushing. I get a jug of salt away and flush the motors out really good each time. Down arou d Clearwater there is a ton of law around. Cost guard, fish and game ect and they always want to talk after to you had a few drinks. Not to bad thats why we stay up around Anclote. We store it at Stamas. They have their own ramp, 24 hour gates. Its really nice and tou dont have to deal with public boat ramp guy. The only other thing is the amount of people around in the summer. Up here we are coming off the traliers around 930am to get a good spot at the islands before they get packed.

I have looked at the Sea Ray SDX 270 Outboard

and the Hurricane Sundeck 2690 OB

but I keep coming back to the way the Yamaha looks with the 100% open swim platform

Tell Brandon I said Hi! Bought my 192 from him in 2015. Great guy. I'm in a Chaparrel 223VRX. Love it.

I boat from St Pete all the way to Palm Harbor. What do you plan to do (in your boat) when you get one?

I live in a Condo on Gulf Blvd in Sand Key, so I have no place to store the boat myself.

I would need to Find a Marina ( another challenge) to keep the boat

I found one Largo Marine ( except there is no availability lol)

The only availability I did find was with a electric lift in a marina ( for $975/month)

I think that type would be impossible to fully access all sides for a proper cleaning.

It seems like a Jet Boat should be on a trailer for proper cleaning after a Salt Water use

I kept my boat at Homeport (When I lived in Clearwater). Have you looked there? It might be to far. Which city are you in?

If anything a jet boat will be the same. Flushing still has to be done on a i/o or outboard. Especially with salt water use. I came from a i/o and can say I like the jet boat flushing better

Where will you be storing the 275 on its trailer? The 275 is so big (wide), it requires permits to be towed on public roads. Did you order the trailer with the boat, because it is my understanding that unlike other Yamahas, the 275 doesn't automatically come with the trailer?

Are you allowed to keep a boat and trailer where you live? Do you have a place to store that?

I'm lucky, I keep mine on a lift (see pic) behind my house. I modified the boat and the lift (with sprayers) to make flushing and wash down super easy.

ZippyBoater

This comes as news to me, I had no idea you needed a special permit for the 275

NO, I can not leave it where I live

That's another challenge, there is very limited high and dry storage locally

Thanks for the input
