@Levi Weatherford your fears are valid. Unfortunately there are several aftermarket products on this forum that are closely guarded by vocal watchmen. Anyone with any opinions otherwise will need to be ready to defend their choice with thick skin, talk behind closed doors or just simply keep their mouth shut. Unfortunately for the forum, as a whole, I think many choose to keep their mouth shut and so the forum becomes very one sided regarding aftermarket product options.

Let's look at @Levi Weatherford 's post:

He obviously prefers to talk about his option behind closed doors because he doesn't want to be dragged over the coals for choosing option B over option A. :bag:

To appease the vocal watchmen to avoid being dragged over the coals, he obviously feels the need to compliment ridesteady even though he has had no interaction, doesn't own the product, and actually purchased the competitors product. o_O

Is this really the environment you want in this forum? I really enjoy this forum, it is super informative but there are certain things that really upset me and the product bashing is high on that list. I will say that the products the vocal watchmen defend are good products, but I wonder how much of it is actual product superiority vs choice supportive bias = the tendency to retroactively ascribe positive attributes to an option one has selected and/or to demote the forgone options
Choice-supportive bias - Wikipedia
While I will unapologetically make my love for the Ridesteady system known, I won't tear down anyone for choosing to purchase the wrong speed control product... lol! 😉😉

@Levi Weatherford your opinions on your PP system are welcome here.

I actually have the new Perfect Pass system but have been afraid to post anything about it here. I figured I would get flamed for it. :) It works great and I have had tremendous customer service directly from Perfect Pass. You can PM me if you have any other specific questions about it. I truly believe RIdesteady makes a great product and, from what I read, has outstanding customer service as well.
Levi, I'm sorry you feel that way, we need honest member review of products to help keep members informed and sort out real world use from marketing hype,

I'd love to see a post from you about installation and your experience in using the new PP set up,

.

Again, I did not want to start any kind of speed control war. :) At this time I have been very impressed with the Perfect Pass system but who knows, it's a man made product sold by a man, so it could crap out tomorrow and they could tell me to go pound sand. But honestly, it just does what I need it to do. I have only three programmed cruise modes I use right now. Surf, Wakeboard and Cruise(30 mph). It took me maybe an hour to install everything. It holds the programmed speed spot on. While it does not have the engine sync mode, when I have it on and using it, the engines are within 150 rpms of each other. If I am remembering correctly, the port engine is the engine that runs slightly higher. I had one initial issue when I first started using it. When I would hit the "ON" button, at idle, the idle speed would increase by about 300-400 rpms. I promptly emailed Perfect Pass about the issue. I merely asked if this was normal? What did they think? The next day they let me know that they would look into it. A couple days after that I received an email letting me know that they were sending me a new, reprogrammed main computer that allows the end user to change the idle(APS input voltage). Problem solved. Again, I cannot stress how well Perfect Pass customer service handled my concern. I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH OR PAID BY PERFECT PASS.
The knob is probably easier to adjust but I don't know the difference and the buttons seem pretty good. Engine sync feature is probably nice too but again I don't have it so I am not missing it. I think I paid less for the Perfect Pass system but as you know I have one or two less features. Again, just my honest review.

I am disappointed by the "Ford vs Chevy" stance that often occurs in threads comparing competitive products. Typically the products have differing benefits and weaknesses. Discussion of those points is beneficial but partisanship serves little purpose.

We benefit from multiple vendors openly participating in this forum, sharing their positive points while learning about and hopefully addressing real world issues.

I think in general you have to have thick skin to participate in any online forum/FB group. There's also the group of folks that can't use ridesteady, so PP is our choice anywho. Just started surfing so that has sped up my purchase of PP, which I kind of have to do anywho as they're going to discontinue fairly shortly after the end of this year I hear.

Where did you hear this from? I hope they don't stop supporting it with my lcd screen going out I'd really be upset with the big outlay of cash only having it become a paperweight

Not saying they won't support it, just won't sell it. JBP posted in their PP thread that it likely would be sold through the end of this year.

I think that's only the exclusivity period that JBP has, afterwards will be sold direct through perfectpass.

This is on my to do list.
Sorry to Hi jack your thread-
I have a 2014 212x- which system works with my boat? Both?
@ Levi weatherford
You said PP doesn’t Synch your twin motors, how do you get the RPM”s so close? Just by feel?
My lake is by no means smooth so when it’s rough trying to get those twins lined up perfectly is a damn pain. I’m not hyper sensitive by any means, but I can hear when my truck drones so having a motor 300rpm or more off from the other motor really irritates me.
If someone bashes you, they can go kick rocks, and 95% of the members here fee the same way. We need reviews from customers who have purchased and tried. Speaking for my self, every dollar counts and I’m not dropping that kind of coin on Blind Faith...

This is for the older boats that don't have APS and require the servos, plates, etc to make work.

My 2017 212 Limited S uses the APS to control the throttle bodies so basically all the Perfect Pass system is syncing the engines by putting the same voltage to both throttle bodies. There is no "feel". You can actually put both shifters in the forward detent and then only have to use the starboard throttle lever to run up the engines when using PP. It's not monitoring the RPMs of each engine and syncing them that way. Like I said earlier, they are rarely running the exact RPMs but they are really close. I am thinking they might be off because of what @swatski has mentioned before, uneven pump loading. Port engine on my boat runs a tad higher RPMs.

Ignore my ignorance.
When was APS introduced? Ive seen the term but ignorant to it. Can anyone say weather or not my 14 212x utilizes APS?
If so am I safe to assume with a perfect pass system I could to use one throttle for both motors with the PP system engaged?

Thanks for the response bud.

“Edit- Watching the PP videos by JBP now and then I’ll look for some ride steady videos.

Here's a pic of my starboard side Accelerator Position Censor (APS). The throttle cable terminates at the APS. If you have one your boat is compatible with PP or Ridesteady.

What @J-RAD said. Basically, all 1.8 powered yamahas have the APS, supercharged or not.
The HO MR-1s are pretty much the only motors in the lineup that use mechanical throttle all the way to the throttle body in the intakes, so a "traditional" PP with servo motors is the only option for full cruise control. Those work well, but are a bit of a project to install and have had some issues with the screen and the servos burning out.

The all electronic (no servo motors) RideSteady has a new full-sync and auto-sync modes, auto-sync active when the system is on, "full" sync synchronizes the engines even with the system OFF. It's unbelievable.

Those are reasons for which I like to use the R-S for general cruising, I find it especially helpful in rough conditions when making small throttle adjustments can be very difficult.
If taking the boat off shore, which typically requires a VHF radio, I would want to check there is no interference with the electronic modules. The R-S is VHF proof by the manufacturer, there is no interference.

Yeah, I have to agree with Swatski here. I bought an AR 240 this Summer and took a close look at both systems. One HUGE difference, PP does not sync your engines. I spent half the Summer with a stock AR240, then added a Ride Steady system. The engine sync, all by itself, is worth the price of admission. Even If I never was going to tow--and to be honest I don't tow often--I'd want a RS system just for the engine sync. Seriously. Two MUST upgrades in my opinion: RS and JetBoatPilot's Lateral thrusters. Had the boat without 'em, now I have them both. BIG difference on both counts.

We love to eat at a floating restaurant in our Marina. Everyone with a jet boat looks like such an amateur trying to leave the dock. (The river current pushes you into the dock.) With the lateral thrusters, I just leave the bow line around a dock cleat and hold on to one end. Put it in reverse and the rear just pivots out and away from the dock. I get lots of compliments on my boat handling skills, LOL. Without the thrusters, well not so many compliments. The RS system? Just as nice. No more trying, unsuccessfully for more than 30 seconds, to sync the engines. Makes outings so much more pleasant while driving the boat. Seriously a "must have."

Starting to think I made a poor choice by including Perfect Pass in my new boat (2019 212X) purchase rather than Ridesteady. The dealership installed the Perfect Pass system a couple of weeks back and has been struggling to get it working correctly. I went down to get the boat two weekends ago, but the techs were seeing check engine lights as soon as they went for a test ride. Unplugged the PP system and all was fine. At least I got to go out for a familiarization ride with the family with the PP system unplugged. Absolutely in love with the boat and very disappointed that I couldn’t bring it home. PP sent a new control unit, but still having problems. New cables are on the way now from the PP team. If it doesn’t get resolved this week, I’m planning to have the dealership send back the PP unit and order a Ridesteady unit to replace it.

I’ll let you know how things go...currently disappointed to say the least.

I have to ask the question...why do you find the engine synch so valuable. What’s the problem if they’re not synchronized? Coming from a single engine to a twin and just don’t quite understand the need/value in having them perfectly synchronized when Yamaha doesn’t worry about perfect synchronization.

I wouldn't say it's important but, it's nice. As these engines are known for their higher pitch being that they run at a higher RPM you can hear the resonance when they're off from one another. Some aren't bothered by it, some are and mess with the binacles to get them to match up while driving. It's just a OCD distraction. The E-series models with the e-throttles do sync with one another all other models don't. I wasn't highly concerned with it but, I would mess with them while cruising to get them to match up.

Since adding the Ridesteady, I love that the little annoyance is gone. The boat still handles the same. The system disengages at wakeless speed so it still maintains independent control at the dock. If for whatever reason you wanted independent throttle control at speed the system will only be able to match RPM within a certain percentage offset.

Anyway, it's a great bonus if you ask me.

Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate your experience with the system and the potential sound issue. I guess we’ll see if I’m bothered by that soon, at least I hope to get my boat delivered soon.
