I mounted my 8.8s below the black plastic. They fit and sound just fine.Has anyone installed any JL 8.8’s or 7.7’s at the helm and copilot areas on a 242? I don’t believe there’s enough depth but wanted to ask if anyone knew the mounting depth or has installed either size in/around those locations? Thank you

Did you end up getting the speakers in the panels or mount them elsewhere? I put in a pair of matching 6.5" Polks and found I had about 3.5" of clearance behind the panels in my 212s which was plenty for my needs, but I guess big spacers would be needed for the big 7.7/8.8 speakers?Has anyone installed any JL 8.8’s or 7.7’s at the helm and copilot areas on a 242? While Skar speakers are much cheaper, I've heard them and you get what you pay for...just average sound quality like most in the price range. The stock Polk DB652 speakers in my boat sound better with more accurate tonal quality, and they cost the same.Save your money and buy Skar speakers.
