I just bought an ar250 and I’m looking to get a upgraded sound system. I’m having a hard time deciding between 2 big or 4 smaller tower speakers. I plan on getting a sub and amps to power everything. I will be getting a new head unit to control everything as well. Please post a pic of your set up and what you have. Thanks.

On 195s (less headroom than yours) I went with 4 8” towers. If I had your boat I would start with 2 10’s then maybe add 2 more. If money is no object - either the kicker Horns, or the WetSounds rev 10s

Definitely not trying to hijack this thread, but the world needs to know more about that Rolls Royce in your garage, Farny.

Back on topic, here are the JL's the P/O had installed on my boat.

Lol wish I could claim it. I have a friend who has a huge private barndo garage / shop where we did my audio install - that rolls belongs to his pop. Although he does work on high end vehicles and often Rolls’ - Towncenter automotive in the woodlands.

Never had Rockford Fosgate. Which ones are you looking at? What kind of amp power are you planning on pushing? What’s your goals for the system?

Well I decided to go with fusion ra-770 head unit, 4 -6/1/2 inch kickers. 2 - 8 inch kickers. 2 - 11 inch kicker tower speakers with horns and a ROCKFORD FOSGATE t-1000-4AD amp. Should be ok to start. Things ad up quickly. I can upgrade later if I want.

I like that speaker setup! You will be a head turner for sure. Wife would have killed me over the Cc bill if I bought the 11” horns. My only concern is you may need to make the amp the next upgrade as your only getting a fraction of what those speakers are capable of. May be worth the extra $ for additional amp power.

ex. With my setup I’m sending 800 total RMS through the system and my 4 WS cabin AND 4 kickers tower can take more rms. For instance - the 4- 8” towers can handle total of 600w (150 rms each x4) and my tower amp is only sending 100w to each. Wired in parallel 2ohm = 200w/ Chanel @ 2 speakers per channel. So I am missing out on 50w of upside each speaker.
Sorry such a mouthful- hope that makes sense.

here’s the install thread with parts list of it helps

Curious, why did you go with one amp to drive 8 speakers of different parameters? Since it's a 4-ch amp I'm guessing you're parallel wiring which means you're wasting power to the 6.5's and under-powering the 11's? Or are you running the 6.5's off the stock wiring and head unit?

That amp puts out some power per channel.
  • 250 watts RMS x 4 at 1 to 4 ohms
  • 500 watts RMS x 2 bridged output at 2 ohms (2-ohm stable in bridged mode
Speaker setup?
  • 6 1/2 - 65watt rms x 4 in cabin
  • 8” - 150w rms x 2 - guessing in cabin? Or on swimdeck
  • 11” horns - 300w rms x2 Tower

Don't forget the most important part that most leave out an EQ or two.

The stock amp is going to power the 4 6.5’s The bigger amp will power the two towers and 2 8” speakers. That’s what the guy I hired to do my install told me anyways.

fusion ra-770 ? will this work through the stock screen and control knob to the right of the steering wheel and rear deck remote ?

I think I know why your installer wants to use the ra 770 it has multiple RCA out puts that in theory allow you to easily control the balance of the system, cabin to tower separate volumes and sub woofer volume and crossover points. The problem is its not easy to adjust due to having to access the sub menus that are multiple clicks to adjust. You need an EQ not a head unit that is direct control immediate adjustment . Example you have people doing water sports you get ready to go you may not want all speakers at full power but as the boat powers up and creates noise that you need to over come you can easily just turn the volume knob for the tower speakers from the eq. Then maybe a recording has over powering bass a quick turn of the eq knob and its balanced out its much less distracting and very easy to adjust. Keep the stock head unit apply those $ to an EQ , cables and install time My friend has the Ra -770 in a different type of boat its really annoying to make adjustments set it and forget it does not work for our boats and use.

Were you able to mount your tower speakers? I am interested in seeing an AR250 with the tower speakers mounted on the smaller pipe which doesn’t have a clean run down to the base of the tower. It looks like the easiest path is to fish the wire through the larger pipe on the front of the tower.
