I will keep an eye out. We are in a white black and red AR190 named LureFish. A play on words of our last name. Most trips we hang at Fishing Battery Island, but have been exploring more of the bay lately.

Where in PA? My wife and I are in Downingtown, PA. We were out yesterday, did our first trip to the Nauti Goose from Port Deposit. it's a nice area up there.

Curious, did you sneak through the skinny water on the north end of the Flats or go all the way around to the south?

There actually is a reasonably deep channel the runs across the north end of the flats from Havre de Grace to the Northeast River. Popular hangout spot up there, too.

I've seen the channel on my chart but it seems to open to the Northeast River into 2-3 feet of water so was never sure the best way to navigate that section. Are there any markers to know the best path once that channel ends?

No markers. If you have a depth finder it will put you more at ease. I don’t have one but my friend does and I was following him going there. Coming back it was high tide. Yellow line is my route going to NE. Pink is my route coming back. The pink route was the suggested navionics route when I programmed it in. It worked for me.

Thanks, this is the part I was questioning. I plan on trying it out this weekend. All my experience is Eastern Shore, mostly Sassafras to Rock Hall. Two trips to St. Michael's. So I'm just learning the Susquehanna area.

6/25 is about 2 weeks out. For those coming, I want to throw out two options to see what people are feeling.

Option 1: The Cruise (the original plan), meet at port deposit and cruise over to Chesapeake Inn or Shaffer's.
Option 2: Island hangout - drop in wherever and meet at Fishing Battery Island, barge up and hang out.

Sorry to keep revisiting the plan, but I'm pretty indifferent and think either would be fun, so wanted to see if people are feeling more of a group cruise or group island hangout.

Either option is fine with us, although my wallet would probably choose number 2. But 1 would be a little bigger "adventure".

If it's calm, option 1 is about an hour cruise. Correct? With weather it can take 2-3x as long. I crossed Turkey Point in heavy wind once that just tossed us around. It may be a game time decision. Calm wind = Chesapeake City. Wind = Battery Island.
That probably doesn't help arrive at a decision but so much is weather dependent.

Grass is not an issue. I've been to the Island many times, never had an issue. There is occasionally a patch or two when you come in, but you can see it and go around, once you get in where everyone parks it is all sand.

The big grass problem is at the ramp. I always come out on one engine.

Those of you who've been to Port Deposit Public Boat Ramp, I was looking at it on Google Maps - street view - and the entrance to the ramp off of 222 looks like it has some low hanging wires on the telephone poles. Anyone have any issues getting into the ramp? My tower is around 10 1/2 feet high with the boat on the trailer and I'm a little concerned about the clearance. Hopefully just an optical illusion from the street view camera but I'm interested if anyone has had any issues?

I always launch out of Port Deposit, I'm in an AR190, I think my tower height is around the same. I've never had an issue. I did google electric line minimum height and this is what i found: "According to the National Electrical Safety Code, telephone lines must be at least 14 feet above the ground and electrical lines must be at least 15-½ feet above the ground."

So you should be good.

Saturday weather is looking great! Since it's the first meet up let's meet at Port Deposit ramp and cruise out to the Island and hang out. If you want to launch somewhere else, that is fine, just let us know where and if you will meet us at Port Deposit or if you will meet us at the island.

Let me know who is in and where you plan to launch from/meet us. Looking forward to seeing all the jetboats out!
