I believe they get a tax break if xx% of their boats manufactured meet SULEV requirements, which is why you find them all over the country.

@McMark I am sure you were relieved to see the 132. I am happy for you.

Good boating.

I was trying to get this in with my last post. Note Cali models contain an "L". You can find the model # on your title.

OK so this is crazy. The model # sticker in the engine compartment says sat1800a-p.

That is the non CARB model. The other sticker says 122kW. I pulled both engine covers and the say 122kW.

The engine family (all 3 stickers) indicate the CARB model.

What is the model number on your title? I don't think you can read the model # off the engine placard. That model # you found does not correspond to any on the price list.

I don't have title, bank does. Sat1800a-pg is what would be on your price list. The a denotes color, a is black, b is suede gray and c is blue.

Your list is incomplete.

It is missing the black version. Which is what I have. Also the "g" because I have a galvanized trailer.

Good boating.
I was. Especially because things like that never go in my favor :). I just knew all day it was going to say 122kw when I got home. It's a drag that carb boats are basically pawned off.

You're probably right. I was purchasing a Limited S and they probably didn't include a complete list. I guess it varies state by state, but in Florida you get a copy of the title. I just checked my purchase contract from the dealership and the full model # is printed there. I feel your pain brother.

Kennc, My boat didn't have a title but rather a manufacturer's certificate or origin. Your dealer has a copy and you can have them send you a photo copy or you can get an official copy. I had to send the original to get the boat registered. That document will have all the information you are looking for.

That sucks. I was going to post that it was probably your throttle cables needing to be adjusted since I had that issue when I first took mine out. I only was able to hit 45. After adjusting the cable I was able to hit 52.

Sorry to hear you did not get what you expected. I don't blame that on Yamaha. I blame that on the dealer.

@OperationROL I am assuming yours is NOT a CARB boat?

Does anyone have a CARB boat that goes over 50 mph?

I got my CARB boat up to 51mph last summer with 13-15mph winds at my back, no passengers, and 1/4 tank of gas. Typical WOT speeds for me range from 46-49mph. Happy that it still gets up to those speeds pretty quickly as well.

@OperationROL Just spent the last two hours or so on the phone. First with the dealer and then with Yamaha. As I expected, dealer says call Yamaha it is there issue, Yamaha says call dealer it is their issue.

Both say I should drive it three hours to my dealer so they can adjust the throttle cables to see if that fixes the issue.

Is that a fairly straightforward issue that I can tackle?

It was kind of funny, the Yamaha Rep first told me how the boats are exactly the same. I corrected her a couple of times but she insisted she was correct. She kept putting me on hold to speak to someone, I then got her to confirm the kW ratings are the power of the boat and then asked her to explain how 122 is exactly the same as 132. I was on hold for a long time on that one, then she came back and said, while yes the horsepower is different, but I can use my boat in California.

She went on to say that my boat will have better re-sale value because other states are going to require 4 star ratings at some point in time.

OMG.....that is the EXACT experience I had. Deny, deny, deny until it's ridiculous to deny, and then confirm that you're right. At least I was spared the "your boat will be worth more" line!

Driving 3 hours to have them verify if the throttles are opening fully is silly. There are a couple of youtube videos explaining how to check it. I did the same thing thinking (praying) that was the issue. No luck. All you basically do is move the throttles fully forward (engine off of course) and verify if they are up against the stops...just barely touching the stops I believe. They are located in the engine compartment, one on each side, mounted to the hull.

After the dealer experienced my fury...and apparently the fury of others, he said they told the Yami reps they will accept no more Cali boats. Whether or not that's true is up for debate. I would love to know the exact percentage of boats with the CARB certification. One thing we know for sure, BoatTest.com never seems to end up with a CARB boat for their testing.

Not to call you a liar @rkgdmd, but Yamaha assured me they have not heard of this issue, EVER!

At this point me and my wife are just shaking our heads.

At this point me and my wife are just shaking our heads.

I did leave a message with my dealer because I told him that when I called Yamaha, they were going to throw him under the bus and say it was his problem because he sold me the boat. He was incredulous when I told him that and said that he just spoke to them and they wouldn't do that. So I had to leave him a message indicating that is exactly what happened.

My wife also pointed out the insaneness of it all in that Yamaha (at the end of the conversation) said that since I looked at the boat when I took delivery and could clearly see the 4 star sticker I knew what I was buying, this despite that she was swearing up and down not 30 minutes earlier that there is no difference in the boats.

Funny that one of 3 dozen stickers on my new boat should alert me to the fact that my new purchase is almost 8% lower in horsepower than what is advertised, but Yamaha itself and its dealers denies the difference, and then says it really isn't an issue and then says it is beneficial.
That's too bad. Again, I blame the dealer. They order the boats and fully well know what the 4 star rating means (better than a customer would). Anyhow, I will find a photo of the area where you adjust the throttles. It takes about 20 seconds to adjust. No need to take it to the dealer. Stand by............
