Just bought this...http://www.xkglow.com/Ultra_Bright_15_Color_144_LED_Remote_Control_p/xk074009.htm

It is on sale right now for $89.99 plus received a 20% off coupon (TRAILER20). If you load a boat at night, this might turn out to be very useful! I will post pictures later once I have them on the trailer. I love my LED's on the boat, from XK Glow as well.

PS - I don't have any affiliation with this company, just like to share when I find something I like.

Ordered. Thanks for the heads up! I was looking at these the other day. Let us know how your install goes!

Thanks!

Interesting. Seems like it uses a remote to turn on and off... I wonder what the range is on that? I'm still leaning towards a digital float switch and LED strips but it's nice to have it in a package like this.

They claim that the range for the remote is ~160ft, but as long as it works from about 50' I'll be happy. I figure I'll turn it on when I back the trailer into the water and turn it off once I have pulled out and wiped off. (That could be taken the wrong way, but I couldn't think of any other way to say it)

I'll post an update once I have tried it out. I'm hoping to have the kit installed before the holiday weekend.

Same for me Bill, looks like it will be here Monday...so I'll have a couple days to work on it!

I read a review on amazon that this unit is junk....it was the only 1 of 1 review so we will see.

I didnt notice, how are these to be mounted to the trailer?

Don't know for sure on installation, but looks like the tubes have places to secure with screws. Says zip ties are provided, but I will want to have more than just zip ties. Don't know about the quality of this set, but I've been very happy with my boat set...we will see!

They look cool.......I really dont want to screw in to my galvanized trailer. I will figure something out.

Was able to get these installed tonight! Took longer than anticipated, but really it's a pretty easy straight forward install. I'll take more pictures tomorrow in the light to see what they look like better, but snapped a couple quick ones with the lights on in my shop...

First impression is they are nice, and I think they will be useful with night loading...but like almost everything we do on these boats, it's not the most practical thing! Heading to the lake this weekend, I'll try to remember to get some pictures of the trailer in the water with the lights on.

Mine showed up yesterday!

Mine got here last night along with the 20 pc kit for the boat. I'll be a busy guy the rest of the week. Looks good @LyonsAR210! Did you splice in after the trailer plug, or did you go ahead and run the power cable up to the vehicle battery?

Those look pretty cool! The few times that I've had to load in the dark I've told my my wife to just leave the trailer lights on and it worked fine for me to see the bunks.

The kit looks pretty cool. I powered it up and they are bright and multiple colors. But after looking at options for installing, I don't really want to look at the wires in between the modules and don't want to screw them into the trailer. Zip ties would look horrible imo. I'm going to send it back. XK glow will give me a refund as long as I didn't install the kit.

@Bill D I went ahead and ran power off the vehicle battery...I wanted to go off the trailer, but wasn't sure about the power requirements. I might go back when I have more time and wire it directly off the trailer.

@Kevin1741 I used zip ties for now (black trailer so it doesn't show up too bad), but will go back and use a silicone adhesive after the season if it still bothers me too much! I agree about the wires between light bars, but didn't want to take them apart just to run them through the trailer...if it bothers me too much, I'll clean it up later as well. I wouldn't pay the full price for them, but being on sale and 20% discount made me feel like it was worth a shot!

What do you think about using these for a lift or slip? I am thinking about it. Night docking sucks. hmmm....

@Port0222 interesting concept, might work! You would have to have 12v power, or a way to bring it down from 110. The other issue I could see is do you have a place to mount them on the lift? If it's just pontoons and bunks, you wouldn't have good options to mount. But if you have rails below your bunks, it would probably work. Running the wires could be an issue as well, as the power would be off the lift, so you would have to have a good amount of lead wire from the Y-connector to your power supply.

Another option is to mount on the side of the slip, they are bright and would light up a slip pretty good I assume...

I've seen lots of people put pictures of boats, cars and motorcycles on the XK Glow website, but never a slip?

Got my trailer kit installed tonight. I love the way it turned out and the remote. I tried to run them along the inside of the rail so you can't see the lights, just the glow. I just used the zip ties to make sure I like the placement of them, but plan to go back and silicone them.

I also changed that stupid 5-pole plug over to a 7... No more adapter for me! This way I could also hook up the LED's so they can be used anytime the trailer is plugged in.

@Bill D Looks good! I'm going to do the same thing after I get some time, but wanted to get them on to see it in action, plus it will be useful the next couple of weeks for me.

I can't see the pictures regarding the plug change? Can you open that folder up? I'm interested in doing this as well so I can run off trailer wiring. Thanks!

Wes

Sorry about that. I somehow made the folder private.

I just posted a picture of the plug, but it was really easy to complete.

I used the wiring diagrams from @KXCam22 's post. The colors were even right for the most part.

A couple tips;
  1. Hook up both of the browns together, they are running lights for each side. (Brown / Yellow, Brown / Green)
  2. Hook up the red of the XK's to the 12V+ and the black to the Grnd. (You will also have the ground wire for the trailer lights on this pin.)
  3. If you have time to tin the tips of the wire with solder, they will hold up a lot better under the screw down terminals. I did this right away because I was already re-wiring my trailer with solder joints and a dedicated ground wire.
Let me know if you have any questions or need any other pictures.

BTW, Thanks for turning me onto these lights. I can't wait to get the 20 piece installed in the boat!
